    Hello all,

Was coming back from lunch with my wife this afternoon and a kid in a BMW absolutely SLAMMED!! on his brakes for no apparent reason with no one in front of him, to a full stop. I began to haul down on the brakes on my 2019 Tacoma and the system seemed to take over, started beeping and hauled my truck down from about 45-50 mph in a very, very short distance. Don't know if I would have been able to stop it in time myself. Would have been way too close without the electronic intelligence. Wife was like, ''did this truck just stop itself?" The kid got out and just stood there looking at his car with a blank stare. SMH. Auto-Brake-How1.png

Glad you were able to stop and you and your wife were not hurt. Technology can do wonders. Who would have thought a vehicle could do that or have blind spot monitoring 30 years ago?

I remember, back in the 70’s, when my dad bought a Ford LTD, with a cruise control. None of us had ever seen one. Dad would set it, grin and say “Hey kids!!! Look at this”. He would then take his foot off the gas pedal and laugh. We were totally amazed! LOL

I wonder how effective TSS with all of the different tire types.

I wish it altered me before the 18 wheeler hit me from the side. I guess there are some limitations?

Seems like they were more worried about what was in their rear view than anything else.

3 seconds, and that increases with speed. Not saying you were wrong and I don't know the situation, but they probably thought you were riding them and some people are stupid/greedy/dangerous enough to brake check to "prove their point". Hell, sometimes even at a decent following distance if you are closing that gap to pass - like on a two lane highway - they will speed up as soon as you do, or slow down to make you slow down too. Not long ago I was traveling to ID, and someone was going 45 in a 70. Roads were clear, not frozen. A couple cars started creeping up behind me closing that gap and I knew where a passing zone was up ahead. I started to close that gap and this idiot puts on their hazards. As soon as I slowed down and all the traffic behind me started bunching up, they floored it. Even worse though is when the idiot behind you decides they don't want to wait for a passing zone and passes both of you illegally. Also happens all the time where I live.

Just be careful out there man. Some people just can't drive safely and they want to show you first hand how stupid they are. Ego's are fragile on the roads. Glad you are safe, and glad the taco helped!

    Also: DASHCAM!

TSS saved me few times before.

I've had people dart into my lane very last second and brake for no reason. The computers reaction was much quicker than my foot mashing down brake pedal.

Now I have dashcam in case collision happens. Easier to show video evidence than words.

Remember dashcams can cut both ways. It can show you were at fault just as easily as it can show the other driver was.

I had a good following distance. Something was amiss with this kid. Afterwards, he just stood in middle of the road staring at his car and got on the phone.

Sounds like an attempt at an insurance scam/fraud. Couldn’t make his payments anymore so he thought you would be nice and pay it off for him.

I previously had a 2016 BMW X5 and a few folks had reported of sudden emergency breaking that the car would do for no apparent reason.

I personally never had that issue but it has happened across multiple BMWs.

    https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1507674

That’s why I assume the kid jumped out of his car and stared at it in disbelief. Some BMWs have breaks that feels like the hand of god just stopped your car. Kid must have been shocked and confused.

Still can't get my lane monitor to make a noise or light. I have the volume and sensitivity turned all way up. Looked through the menu and doesn't see anything else I can change. My truck doesn't have the side radar just front and rear so I wonder if it only works with side radar.

Wow, makes sense. It was like the BMW practically stopped in its own car length.
