If you wait long enough you’ll see a guy come out of the building and spray the new frames down with salt water to start the patented Toyota rusting process.

There's a lot of other parts of the truck that will rust besides the frame.

That's true, but I clean my truck regularly and always pressure wash the undercarriage thoroughly. My cars generally have 200k+ miles, and more than 10 years of use before I have to replace anything due to rust like brake lines for example. Sometimes I don't even have to do that. If something does need to be repaired due to rust at some point in the future I'll take care of it, no problem.

I thought the dealer told me 10 years, but could be mistaken.

I'm not sure that is a safe assumption. To me it just sounds like Toyota has admitted that there's an issue up to 2017.. they may include 2018-2022 in another a few years. I don't have any data to disprove.. just adding my $0.02.

I'm still gonna fluid film my 2018 and avoid driving thru brackish puddles at the beach.

Took my 2013 in for the recall expecting to just get it sprayed down and surprise - a single 1/2" hole towards the rear that I missed but the tech spotted put the gears in motion for a full replacement. Dealership even offered to replace any parts they had to take off and put back for no labor charge, so I took advantage of the opportunity to replace my leaky and rusty Toytec shocks and coils for new fox 2.5 resis. They even went as far as to supply brand new shiny nuts and bolts in places they really didn't have to, like on my aftermarket front and rear bumpers. Gotta say it was overall a pretty good experience, and I'll be the first to shit on dealer services depts usually. They did get some money out of me to replace a bad wheel bearing (which was def needed, you could hear it whirring) and some leaking power steering components (honestly not sure if this was necessary as I never got eyes on the leak, but the steering does feel tighter then it had before).

Truck rides so good now, I didn't even realize how bad it had gotten. The frame is so new and shiny, I don't think it even looked that good when I bought the truck lol. My dealership in PA also had a few additional frames stacked outside that came in on the shipment with mine. Took about 1.5 months to get the frame in, and I was given a Camry loaner (meh) in the meantime. Thing was filthy when I brought it back...there's a reason I have a truck and not a Camry haha.

I know for my 2nd gen it was 10 - I was in the last few months of eligibility.

So you were able to get a vehicle for MSRP at riverhead toyota?

Here is a tacoma trd sport with 6k market adjustment. I could get a trd pro for less money than that.

    https://www.riverheadtoyota.com/new...sland-ny-f165f1170a0e09b1472f347264a6e01d.htm

EDIT: Even the MSRP of $48,268 seems pretty high. Shame I don't see a break down of the price. I would bring my business else where if they pull that sh*t.

a lot of these are probably for people who have been in an accident and the insurance wants to replace the frame.

No insurance would just total and salvage no way in hell they would pay for a complete frame swap. All those frames are due to the recall of rusted frames

Those frames are for extended warranty frame replacements. On the second Gen (at least my 2010) the time period for the replacement service was 12 years from date of first service.

I traded mine in a few weeks prior to the expiration date on my new one. The cost of frame replacement was simply too much to risk self insuring.

As much as I enjoy my new Tacoma, whoever got my old one got a nice truck.

They wouldn't go to MSRP for me when I was shopping. I wound up going to Empire in Huntington and got MSRP, but I bought a 21 Tacoma TRD OR and a 22 4Runner TRD Sport at the same time.

I even offered to buy both trucks at the same time at Riverhead with no luck. Maybe they didn't like me..lol

It took a lot of work. At the end of the day they wanted the FJ. The sales
Manager had a hard on for it. Our first trip there lasted all of about 6 minutes, they had told me 6 or 8k over and I told them where to stick it, about 40 minutes later the sale manager called and said listen let me see your FJ if it’s in as good condition as you’re telling me I’ll give you what you want and msrp. No bullshit add ons nothing.

For all of you from long island, is there a toyota dealership you like the best? I'm the closest to riverhead, but looks like they charge over MSRP.
