I’m sure he was just making a point that our trucks “should” get better MPG. I’m getting 15 MPG highway stock. I get better in town. My tuned ‘19 M4 with approx 600 hp and short geared MT (3,000 RPM in 6th at 80 MPH) gets 25 MPG.

How does it perform off-road? And, how much can it tow?

    The M4.

The Tacoma is designed for towing/hauling/off-road use. Your BMW gets better fuel economy because it's lighter and more aerodynamic. It shouldn't be a surprise.

#Rhetoricalquestion. But it’s the point the other poster was speaking of. We have a tiny pecker engine with like 220 Rwhp. I would expect better mileage. Am I complaining? Kinda, but I’m keeping my baby. I love my gassy Taco.

It is weight and aerodynamics that brings the fuel economy down to where it is. It is acceptable. If a person wants better, their right foot is in control. I’ve gotten over 20 since new in my stock Limited. And over a 2 year period averaged 24. I don’t try as hard, plus we do drive thrus a lot more now, where we used to go in to eat, so I’m averaging 21 now. Driving like an old boring guy (I am).

My heads cam hard loping T/A gets almost 25 mpg on a highway trip. At Big Bend Open Road Race averaging 135mph with max speed around 170, it was 5.something. Again, how it is driven matters.

I'm just saying that you can't really compare the performance of a pickup truck to a sedan, coupe, or sports car. Even with the same engine, gearing, and weight, the more aerodynamic vehicle would get better fuel economy.

That said, I suppose the Taco could get better mileage. Heck, It looks like the new Tundra might get better mileage than the Tacoma.

My Dad's GMC Sierra gets better gas mileage and can tow a heck of a lot more. So now what?

    Actual mileage? Or, estimated?

    Also, read my other post.

My point was that you can't compare sedan fuel economy to truck fuel economy.

    15.5 mpg on my 2.7 running stock(small) 245/75/16

that’s half ton V8 MPG for a rig that has a hard time getting up to speed.

I’ve noticed whenever I have the fan on the MPGs will drop 1-1.5 no matter if it’s on heat or the AC is engaged. Best MPG I’ve seen is spring time, 55-60 degrees, blower fan off, extremely light throttle cruising at 60 mph with no headwind.
