What is arguably the best shocks/struts/coilovers for everyday on road driving?

You are correct in talking about the OP. However,

You can get fully adjustable long travel for thousands and thousands and have a mucho body rolling ride I guess.

But anything that oriented for better “performance” on-road or off-road is going to ride stiffer than OEM.

What about a mild lift? I think if you go 1.5" you don't need a diff drop, can you get a lift with factory stuff or am I way off?

You can, but it's blocks and spacers. Sometimes that's a reasonable solution, most times not.

What is practical is if you don't *need* a lift, don't get one. The vanity of looks is overrated. And the only thing that raises the axle line is taller tires, not a suspension lift.

 

A small lift (1/2”) you will get from 265/75-16 tires

 

This may just be your personal opinion based on your personal experiences with a specific shock package.

We can and absolutely do make "off-road shocks" perform better than stock. OEM shocks are cheap and mass produced. Unless you start talking about IBPs or other factory options like that, stock shocks are far from great on just about any truck/SUV etc. A lot of people come to us and want their truck to ride nicer both on and off-road and we do just that. We have hundreds of hours testing different valving on shocks. We test our valving on the hwy for "freeway hop", speed bumps, choppy roads and dirt roads since most will experience that a lot more than just off-road. We custom valve shocks specific to the customers vehicle and driving style. Other brand off-road shocks may not offer the ride quality you want. Yes some can be a lot more firm/harsh than stock, but not all off-road shocks will be a worse shock for a daily driver.

 

He has a 3rd gen, already has 1" greater lift than a 2nd gen. LT 265/75R-16 will already fit without a lift.

Ah, yes I did misread that.

 

Come ride in mine, way better than stock. When my truck was bone stock I found it to jarring/bouncy with the stock bilsteins. With the normal skids/bumper/winch/tuned Fox 2.5s with 600lb springs, it handles like a dream.
