Awesome, thanks for the input! We'll be coming from 40, but that drive up to Sand Gap then back down 1808 (or even 123?) back down to 40 should work with our timing. And looks like there is a lot to check out along the way.

Depending on how much time you have, on the south end of Indian Creek, check your map for routes over to Pilot Rock Road. It comes out on 123 on the north side, and 7 on the south side. That whole area is really scenic. Check out Car Wash Falls, that loop takes you back out to 7 from 123 on the N side of Hurricane Creek Wilderness. If you need Gaia tracks, let us know. That Big Piney camp spot Cards3 posted is very near that route. Maybe more than you have time for tho.

Is Pilot Rock back open? I thought the road was damaged not too long ago.

I think there was a landslide a few months ago close to 123, but that’s the only closure I knew of. Maybe someone with more in the know have a more recent update.

That's what I'm thinking of. Haven't seen any updates on it.

    Yeah.
Yeah, I've been through there several times since the damage, it didn't take them long to fix. Looked like debris had dammed up some water in one of the steep ravines and it suddenly let go.

But yeah, the views from Pilot Rock Road are worth a minor detour.

Midland's 50W MXT575 mobile radio with mic controls will be released this summer. I will test it when it becomes available. However, be advised that the jump from 15 to 50 Watts is meaningless without a good, tuned, properly placed antenna.

To put it in perspective, I would rather have a little 5W radio with a nice Comet antenna accurately tuned to the GMRS center frequency of 465MHz NMO-mounted in the middle of the roof than a 50 Watt radio with the stock magnet mount.

If anyone in NWA wants help properly installing a mobile radio in a Taco, check the link in my sig or PM me.

Here's an install with a Part 90 GMRS-legal mobile radio ready for testing:

#1 place I'd go to camp w/ girl and dog is the Kings River Overlook area. The problem is, you won't want to leave.

That's the truth. I have an MXT275 with a 6db gain front bumper-mounted Alamosa antenna. It's has been great for reaching out to other radios at a distance in the Ozarks. Though I need to run it on low power when I'm near other radios. The layman's explanation I received is it overpowers other radios and they shut it out unless I turn down the output.

We went last year, followed snow all the way home. I would like to go again this year. It seems they are announcing a lot more vendors.

Yep. More vendors for sure. There are some new ones that I would drive up to meet.

Hello folks. I dont post too often since my son took my taco with him to ASU.

But ive got a lead on a 2012 trd off road.

Could you some advice on what to look for.

He just has the secondary air recall work done and has the unifilter mod already. It’s lived here in central AR for its whole life. Paint is not pealing and the frame doesn’t look rusted. 100k miles.

Are there any other known issues to look for in a 2012?

    I appreciate the help.

    Yeah.
My 2012 was solid. Center support bearing went bad at about 90k (bearing was fine, rubber was toast). Secondary air is the only thing I think.

I have an '11, @PinnaclePete has a '12. Mine runs like champ, and I have used it offroad, pulled trailers many miles, and used it as a work truck on my property and while building my house. I have zero complaints, and have had zero issues last 112,000 miles. I've have done all my own maintenance. If the truck you're looking at has had solid maintenance records, you shouldn't have any problems. Let us know how it goes. At 100K it's probably time for a few baseline and maintenance items tho.
