    If I purchase 285/75/17 Load E tires.

Will I get the more aggressive side wall?

Little confused by this. I am running Nitto Ridge Grapplers currently and they have 2 different sidewalls on each tire. But with these Toyo's some are getting the aggressive sidewall and some are not??

I definitely want the aggressive side wall version.

Has to be the LT version the exception to the rule so far has been the LT285/75/16 is built in Japan amd does not have the aggressive sidewall, all the other larger LT sizes do from my research.

Is load E the LT version?

I saw a few pages back on here that someone posted pics of the size 285/75/17 Load E tires indeed have the more aggressive side wall.

The 285/75/17 tires only come in Load C or E.

I have the 285/70/17's on a 9 inch wheel. I love the way they look and feel. The 285/75/17's will fit without a problem.

Probably a long shot, but has anyone used these on the Dempster Highway up in the Yukon to their way to Tuk and back? I'm planning a trip to go up there next summer and seeing if I should carry a second spare (already have 5x 285/70/17 E load) of these or should I be ok with just a single spare?

I have read threads from several years ago that people carry 2 spares and some saying they ended up needing it and some saying they didn't. I know tire technology has come a long way since then so I thought I'd ask a more "newer" thread.

My daily driver, so I feel SL is for me the best of both worlds.

As you noted, the tires were all LT (E-rated) that were tested on a Ford F150 4x4. Good info though.

Made a quick run to the cabin last night. A half mile unpaved driveway of ice & snow (and some mud as it was a warmish day). In 4wd, we had no issues and there are some "iffy" turns and hills on the drive. On paved roads, I have spun the rears in the wet a few times but my truck is unloaded and pretty light over that rear axle.

It has been pretty widely proven on the forums here that the 265/75R16 (and 265/70R17) will fit without rubbing, especially if you pair it with a wheel with a slight (negative? can never remember how they work) offset such as on the 4Runner TRD Pro/SEMA wheels. Many people like the look of a slightly bigger tire, the slight "lift" it gives (about 1/2" I think over stock given the diameter difference), and/or they already have a lift or are getting one soon and want a bigger tire paired with it.

The speedometer difference is a couple MPH and pretty easy to remember, if you even worry about it at all. .

Gas mileage is again fairly negligible and most people realize that but are willing to make the sacrifice.

Again the performance difference is likely not going to be noticeable on such a small size difference. As you get bigger you'll start to notice, but people who go really big frequently look at re=gearing.

Not good for drivetrain/suspension? Not sure on this one either, but again I think the difference is so slight it would be barely worth mentioning.

It's not like you are going from stock to 35" tires. I think a stock would be around a 30" tire and 265/75R16 are 31". Not much to write home about.

funny enough. i feel like my truck is naturally meant for the upsize. it handles the throttle better when I'm light on the gas. i use to jerk when i would lightly accelerate.

and my speedo is more closely calibrated with my gps.

    definitely no rub.

only downside is that maybe my mpg have taken a small hit?

and a little more road noise than such highway tires.

    This and that...
Did a good amount of research on this trip. Hopefully be able to do it at some point. I believe the road has become better since it got its reputation from eating tires. One video I watched it ate three on one truck but they were cheap generic brands. I believe having one spare and rolling on dependable E rated brands should be sufficient. Then make sure you have a robust puncture kit with you. Airing down would also be recommended. Check out this guy. I believe he only had one spare on BFG’s.

Toyo most likely will not update the sidewall for a a while since this is a new product. The Toyo AT II was unchanged for around 10 years. I think Toyo missed the mark on some of these sizes with the shallow upper sidewall. My guess is they didn’t want it to compete with there Nitto brand tires.
