I need more votes on this pole. I am paid by the hour, but considered salary, but have to enter my hours into the time sheet.

Sounds like a Lot of work for sure. Wouldn’t bother usin’ never seize on those fasteners. Next time I’d be goin’ there it would get traded off right quick.
Sorry, bad memories with a failed grain truck fuel pump, hose & plastic Gerry can & yes it was the only way back to town.

Hourly pay, 1.5x over 40 hours.
That's why my greedy self is going to hit the road for shutdown work.
Be close to 4k a week for almost 5 weeks :anonymous:
Of course I'll give a bunch of that away.
But they can't touch my per-diem.
I figure better get it while I can, talking about if my body won't let me, or too fed up with being on the road away from home.

I watched that video, we don’t have a knurl tool like his. Any suggestions for me tomorrow when I knurl this? I did polish it with some sandpaper.

I know to get it centered, probably run coolant.

Did not know that; hadn't actually bothered to note where the pick-up was located.

Knurling is hit and miss for me too. I usually run a practice piece first. Make note of feed rate and depth. That's a long piece, consider a follower rest.
I use oil in a squirter can and keep air chuck near to keep tool somewhat cleaned out.
I've also been shown to angle tool ever so slightly at leading edge. Bottom line; practice runs with same diameter material.
Edit; a little less pressure at leading edge.
Where is that @nagorb when you need him?
    He has some knurling skills

Don't know that there's a huge need for coolant, but definitely make sure you run a follow-rest. That knurling tool looks a little small for that stock IMO.

I mostly teamed up with the instrument guys but that was back in the day when you could live off untaxed subsistence per diem & bank the Paycheck. Kinda puts the YeeHaa in Gravy Train.

We don’t have a follow rest with this lathe. That material is 2 1/2” OD X 36” long, I need a 30” piece out of it so I’ve got 6” to play with. That’s also the only knurl tool we have.

That example piece wasn't a real aggressive knurl anyway. IDK, without a follower rest may get by with just a couple thousands extra towards the middle
Just make sure not to push it out of the live center..
    :bananadead:
I have faith you'll do a fine job.

I'd wire brush that garbage out of the knurl tool too before starting. Not that it would make a difference but just the way I am:anonymous:
