As long as Tesla autopilot only kills the people depending on the autopilot, that’s cool. There are way too many people driving that need more autopilot. I pay attention and keep my head on a swivel, the amount of people on their phones while driving is fucking ridiculous. It’s the reason I quit riding motorcycles.

What bugs me the most about it is that Tesla had the capability but apparently didn't feel that it was necessary with a system that they continue to call "autopilot". Once they started getting scrutinized all of a sudden they had a fix (not during daytime though)

That screams "make my bathroom look professional but I'm not going to let you replace the vanity."

50% on the owner for forcing the contractor into that
50% on the contractor for doing it

    Unless...

The eye doc did it himself, which means I hope he's a better eye doc than a GC.

I think @Rottencotton was just making a joke the orangutan was Tesla's autopilot driver, like a trunk monkey (frunk monkey?)

I do share your sentiment about the name of the system though. Autopilot in aircraft is usually a dumb system. The unwashed masses somehow associate the name with self-driving capability.

Yeah, but last I saw their autopilot system is in beta and not only warns you to pay attention it also requires a hand on the wheel to even function. The fact that it can do everything it does is amazing, and should only get better. Yes there will be hiccups, but it's already better than 90% of the drivers out there. Some people will die, that's life it happens, and is probably impossible to completely eliminate. At some point you have to say that it's worth it, because that's what we're already doing with drinking and driving, texting, eating, etc while driving.

They advertise it as "Full Self Driving Capability" on their website. Perhaps they just really, really suck at describing their product or they are intentionally using words in a way to make their product sound more capable than it is and burying the details in fine print elsewhere.

Should new Tesla owners read the owner's manuals to find out what the limits are? Sure. Based off the number of questions we see on TW that are answered in the owner's manual I'm not holding my breath.

It would be funny if someone hacked them and made it so when autopilot is enabled, the car drives itself to a funeral home. Just to get the point across.

There are likely 7000% more wrecks caused by idiots driving and playing on their phones. Those are the people that we need to focus on stopping, not the 14 Tesla crashes in 1.4M miles.
