Limited engagement, I was just wondering. I used it the other night and noticed it was picky.
I got a price quote for $2600 for gear change.

Some prefer more flexibility. I haven’t had a need for it outside of 4lo and haven’t had any issues engaging it

If you're desperate to spend money I'd think better to put it towards adding a front locker during your gear change rather than replace the OEM rear locker. The rear can be finicky at times but it works.

So, long and short of it... I have a 2017 TRD Sport, Manual Trans... and I am order the 5.29 gears because the bastard won't move well with 35's -- question is on the locking diff... Companies like Eaton and ARB say that the e-locker won't work for manual trans at all and you have to do air. Is that the case? True/False? I'm confused because the elocker would be better less stuff to leak/break and easier to install up. IF I can do an elocker, I'm going to. Someone have any info on this? Please and thank you.

ECGS would have your answer. They sell the HARROP unit. I'm looking at it myself.

All Manual off-road models (both 2wd and 4wd) Come with elockers, so someone’s should hopefully work.

So I pried and pulled at a Lexus Master Tech and got an answer from Toyota (called tech line) and he said that the TRD Sport automatics come with the 8" rear ring gear and the MANUALS come with the 8.75", so looks like I'm the 8.75" and NO option for rear e-locker... guess I'll grab the air locker and add it to the system!

I'm pretty sure ECGS will sell you an assembled 3rd member with the gears and elocker and give you back like 1500$ for a core charge in exchange for your current diff. https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-23993416-8-75-tacoma-elocker-third.html

Wierd all manuals, both off-road and sport, use the 8.75 axle and all the off-road trims Come with elockers. The sports come with some type of limited slip diff I believe, not an elocker though, didn’t think adding one would be impossible though.

After some discussions on other threads, I called the shop today and asked if they could do the ECGS bushing at the same time the gears go in. I wasn't going to initially, but you degenerates talked me into it ;) The thing that convinced me was reports of people not noticing it and either getting lucky finding it during later maitenence or having issues pop up and wishing they should have done it.

Still no word on when my gears will be here. Late November order and still nothing :(
I'm really hoping they come in this month so I can get my tune. Only reason I don't do the tune then re-tune is because the closest tune to me is over an hour and a half away - and that's meeting them half way.

Just to confirm, this is the correct one, right? ECGS bushing

That's the one. It will be much cheaper to do while they have your CVs and diff out anyway. I'd be surprised if they charged more than 15 minutes of labor.

Even when they’re already doing more than an hour of labor for the gears? That’s pretty stupid if you ask me. They already have to pull out the CVs to do the front diff gears. This would add almost no extra time.

In a perfect world yes. They need special tools and it's not related to the other job.
