Ok, so after talking to a tuner, I'm gonna pull the trigger and get a KD Max Pro tune for my Tacoma. Planning on going with the Sport throttle.
So....anyone that has this tune already, what are your thoughts?
How do you like it so far?
Has your fuel economy increased (not that it matters, but good to know)?

And yes, I know that there's a KD Max tuning thread on here already, but it's 224 pages long, and I ain't got that kind of time tonight.
    Thanks in advance.

I got it in December. There is no more “sport throttle”. The most recently updated KD tune is more streamlined I guess, someone more knowledgeable than me can explain better.

Im happy with the tune. My first observation was a peppier throttle off the line. It also holds its gear longer which avoids the immediate downshift as soon as you release the throttle, which was really annoying to me. My Taco also does the “stutter step” I call it at 30-40 mph, The tune mostly eliminated that for me, I’d say a strong 80%.
As for MPG’s I’m running about 1mpg better than before. At this point I forget the tune is even there because I’m no longer preoccupied with how my truck drives.
    Hope this helps.

Have it love it changes the truck completely for the better. Got their 6.0 last summer and in December upgrade to Pro. Worth every dollar, like others in that 224 page thread share.

I just had mine done yesterday. And I’ve driven about 400 miles so far. It absolutely transformed how the truck drives. My biggest concerns were the gear hunting and a more linear smooth throttle. My truck at around 35 to 3800 RPMs would kick in with what almost felt like a turbo type feeling. Now with the tune it is very smooth all the way through the power band. What more is the actual shifting is dramatically smoother. In short, the truck drives much smoother and is more pleasant to drive. Having done it and if given the decision again I would definitely tune the truck. It’s legit.

The dealership’s software (Techstream) does not detect the tune. It will identify as the stock tune.

What PapaRee says is absolutely true. The tune does not change the ECU ID and TechStream will pick it up as a stock tune. It is possible, however, that a tune can be detected if Toyota investigates your ECU with tools other than TechStream because of a major powertrain warranty claim, for example. That said, the odds are low this will ever happen and there have been instances reported where people have gone in with a tuned truck for powertrain warranty work and not had an issue. So, while very low, the possibility is not zero, and I don't think any reputable tuner would guarantee the tune would not ever affect your warranty status. Like any other mod you do, tunes are pay to play. You have to be willing to assume the risk, even if the risk is small.
