The Tacoma is far from perfect but as far as a truck that I can buy in the US, it is as perfect as I am gonna get - the alternatives are worse and if I ever need to fix literally anything on it, I can get the answer +10 dissertations right-freaking-here + a few YouTube videos..

    I hear you 100% clearly -
My life was saved by my E36 325is and then again by an E46 330ci and I will forever have a deep love for BMW and the fact that those two cars saved my life; I had an Altima hit the throttle right into the driver's side door on the E36 @ 30MPH, bending the frame/totaling the car and a woman in a 4WD Jeep, just not look/make a left across two lanes of traffic, I barely cut the wheel before impact and basically hit a wall, crushed up to the firewall on the driver side - one shoulder put back together and one spine bolted together but I am still here, still walking and still able to operate a clutch without issue.
I take your story as a good sign that my truck, god forbid, will hold up well -

It is hard to explain to someone who has not lived it, how this feels - -

    Thank you for your service!!

Sounds like you should buy yourself a Ford Maverick.

Especially if you live in New England with the amount of salt they put down here I could treat a dozen pools with salt water, just sweeping the salt off the highway.
Then you have to think of all that liquid ice melt they put down too.
Let's just say wash your undercarriage often if you live in Massachusetts.

I think the real issue I have with the Taco is "gear hunting," It's definitely one of the biggest mechanical flaw. Going to make mods in the future to address this issue but I always get compliments on my truck. I have not yet taken it off-roading but I have drove it in deep snow and it handled pretty well.

Those mid 80s trucks were well made. I owned a 88’ 4Runner. Toyota had a lot to prove back then especially in truck market

I hit 100k yesterday and the only problem is my catalytic convertor heat shield bolt went missing.

My 2013 5 lug auto 4 speed does not suffer from gear hunting. I’m surprised the new 6 soeed auto does gear hunt but it’s probably due to underpowered motor and ECU settings

yep i had a 93 toyota pickup and it could withstand a much more intense crash than my 2007.Also i'd rather be in my 88 blazer in a head on collision than my 07 tacoma as well.

I think what cracks me up the most are the people that buy this truck, then spend the next few years on this site just complaining about it.

Some people just have too much time to spend by themselves and it shows.

Maybe @Calvinmoon works for Toyota, and this is some kind of passive/aggressive market research.

I don't have much to say about the actual topic, but I believe the drum brakes might be used due to the Tacoma being offered in manual. Not everyone leaves their vehicle in gear, and the E-brake on my Tacoma was WAY stronger than the one on my 4Runner.

Also; I hang out with a bunch of guys with Tacomas. They love them.
