So I realized I had a bad alternator from a whine in my engine shortly followed by my truck eating a brand new battery.

Next my audio quality started popping and became very staticky.

After testing my alternator I swapped it out with a remanufactured alternator. And everything is back to normal, except my audio is still acting weird.

I have a JVC single din head unit and stock non JBL speakers. while connected to the head unit via Bluetooth it sounds pretty clear and exactly like it did before the alternator went out. However when I am plugged into the head unit via lightning cable it basically sounds like every speaker in the truck is blown.

I’ve never had this problem prior to the alternator issues. I even swapped my Amazon basics cable to an authentic apple charger and it sounded the same.

i also just upgraded to an IPhone 13 pro from my xr, could that be the issue?

Pull the fuse on the H/U power wire. Might have been damaged. More power draw on the H/U charging a phone than an FM station.

I just pulled both of the radio fuses and they both seem to be unblown, any other ideas?

Bluetooth works perfectly, the Phone is messed up, and I haven't tried the radio, but I also haven't used radio in almost two years. I liked using the unit wired as the interface differs from wired to Bluetooth and I liked the wired more. I also feel like Bluetooth sacrifices some quality and depth of the sound.

I just wanted to check if it was just the one input.

Do you have the Xr still? Something I read somewhere too, there may be some pocket dirt in the lighting port on the 13. Do you have some compressed air you could blow in there?

Load a few tunes on it and try it out. That’ll rule out the cable.

Try blowing out the USB port on the H/U too.

Just thought, rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab, clean the contacts of the USB too.

Turns out it’s the new phone! Trying to figure out why it’s messing up

Might be something loose in the phone. Broken solder joint or bad contact.

Hmm… it works fine plugged into other cars. May be a specific issue between my phone and my head unit. Or maybe this phone pulls more zappies, who lnows

Interesting. It sounds weird, but reboot the phone and try it. My 11 acts weird sometimes and needs a reboot.
