The Tacoma is 2nd best used midsize pick up

I read today that orders for the Ford Maverick were going through the roof so they
stopped taking orders for them.

Strange times.

 

I think Ratdaddy hit the nail on the head. Ridgeline, Maverick are Ryan Seacrest ideas of a truck and it's just a big trunk that doesn't have a lid not a real truck bed.
Tough? My old 86 4 banger in 4 low pulled an old Ford truck (2x) and his old 25' boat up a slick boat ramp at low tide like it was nothing. Plus I just can't see either of those in the swampy wet woods where I hunt in Florida.
But yes, good for a trip to HD for a few bags of mulch and a ride to gramma's house over the bridge.
boston23, mildly more exciting? You must be driving a Prerunner not a 4x4, which is what a Prerunner wants to be when it grows up.

I’ve finally seen the full size bronco, not too bad. It’s cool that you can fit huge tires but other than that, 4Runner is 10 times better.

 

Wow, look at this guy. Even got the pinstripes and everything. Not bad, not bad.

 

I dunno, I love driving it. Definitely feels like a truck to me, it’s a bit rough but I like that.

The tune and some other mods made this truck a lot more fun to drive, I look for every excuse to go drive it, still.

 

Silly but, we loved that the 3rd gen still had a hand held tactile gear selector and a real hand brake with rear drums. The Ridgeline had push button parking brake and gear selector. I’m sure it works well but I’m personally not ready for that form & function. I’m sentimentality stuck in the 90’s i suppose and the great times we had with our 1992 Toyota Truck. Hell, our 2003 Pathfinder had a hand brake and a hand held shifter as well. I dunno, just these simple things is what the wife and l love about our 3rd gen.

 

I love Honda stuff, but this pretty much typifies my experience with the brand with the sole exception of the 88 Accord I had. I don't know what it is, but they have perfected the art of appliance driving.

Currently the only Honda I own is a Pioneer 700D and it is the Honda usual ok. But I wish I had kept my Yamaha. One had pizzazz, the other just works.

 

I got such a short glimpse of it, looked ok from what I could see but seemed low to the ground.

 

These guys loaded up a front wheel drive version and it seemed to do ok, the AWD version would obviously be more capable.

 

No snorkel doesn't count.

 

The 4R is lacking a MT Option though.

 

Saw a Maverick on the road for the first time today. Proportion-wise, it appears to be about the same length/height if they made a 5 lug 1st gen taco crew cab. Long & low to the ground.

The fleet orders for that thing must be off the charts. It can carry as much as any Taco and more than double the mileage at a lower entry price.

 

I like the Maverick and I am happy for Ford. They are a great American company and I wish them nothing but success. Looks like they are doing well, too:

I have a Tacoma and have no desire to own a Ridgeline. But that doesn't mean I hate it. I know a contractor and a plumbing contractor who run their business out of their Ridgeline and it is perfect for them. But they don't necessarily need to do a lift kit, de-chrome and take it overlanding. Different tools for different purposes.

 

Don't want a Ridgeline, a Maverick, a Frontier, a Ranger or any other truck out there. Can't wait to get my Electric Lime Taco! May not be the best fit for my driving habits, but it exactly what I want!

 

The list of former and future “Tacoma Killers”. I’m with you. These other trucks are missing something. Hard to say what, but it’s significant enough to keep us all driving Tacomas. Soul maybe.

Back in my Honda fanboy racing days, I purchased a new 2009 Ridgeline to tow my Integra to the tracks and daily commuting. The Ridgeline drove like a giant Accord on the street. While towing I had to rev the shit out of it to redline just to get it going. I do admit though while trailering around it did feel stable unlike the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder I was using before.

With the Ridgeline I only did SoCal local snow runs and light dirt runs and some Baja beach sand dunes that even my Integra could do lol. It was very uninspiring to do more than just that.

I did regret buying the Ridgeline after towing my Integra with a friends 1st gen Tundra V8. The Tundra felt so effortless compared to the screaming and whaling V6 with vtec y0 needing to kick in just to get on the freeway.

Sold the Ridgeline and bought myself a 1st gen Tundra AC V8 and I never looked back!
