Me whoring out another pic of my truck under the guise of sharing info. 2.25 kit with 3.5” backspacing/9” wide wheels on 35s. This is the poke you get with no glass and no fender flares. The pic finally captured the thiccness and wanted to share.

Definitely looks crazy and throws shit all on the side of the truck, but for what I use the truck for and how I’m constantly bashing into trees, glass wouldn’t survive.

Do your rears stick out enough that you’re blowing mirrors out? I blew out 2 sets last year before I said “I’ll wait until I have fiberglass to replace again”. Nothing quite like cruising a dirt road listening to rocks whizz by.

The rear is similar poke but I can’t say I’ve had that issue. I do like to blow mirrors out on trees though. I’ve been through like three of them on the drivers side.

    I couldn't justify $1800 for a vise....

But you throw thousands of dollars in a pickup that you'll never get back. At least with a vise it will be here for the next couple of hundred years. If I had a shop that I setting up I wouldn't think twice about buying it. Its a little overkill for my garage right now. For a vise of its size $1800 is really not that bad of a price. As similary sized Wilton 800s is going for over $3600. Just depends on how much you're going to use it.

I have a few vices I've snagged at garage sales that are probably WW2 era. One of them is probably 150lbs and I got it for 50$. I'm convinced when it comes to stuff like this the old stuff is the best.

I have 3 vices in my shop, and two are cheap, and the last one is an old 4" that was also probably cheap. Never had a problem using them every day. I really like the double swivel one with the pipe clamp, cuz it can be used in so many ways. I've hammered on these things pretty hard and used snipes on the handles etc and they still work fine. Maybe if any of them ever break I'll get a nicer one, but so far haven't had a problem in 4 years.

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
I have this style (big box has them, rebranded/copied Chinese stuff) and have taken decent abuse. Bought an anvil (the cheap blue ones on fleabay) so I'm not as tempted to beat on stuff while its in the vise.

For the price, the big box store versions...can buy 10-20x before spending more for a Wilton. If you do high end stuff, cool... otherwise garage shennigans don't justify clueless heirs selling the wilton vise for $50 at your estate sale.

But it does justify you going to estate sales and scoring that stuff from clueless heirs.

I've scored a few vices, a really nice floor stand drill press and a band saw on the cheap. Nobody knows what it is or what it's worth they just want it gone. Now if I could just find a lathe. Thats one of my next big things I'd like to have in my possession.

I found a 3 phase 10" South Bend local for $2500 and I'm really tempted to buy it... I would have to make room and run new electrical and buy a VFD.
