My kids first job announced they are closing the restaurant. 1. Covid carryover. They can't dig out of the hole. 2. Food costs. Eggs alone went up 30% because MA passed a cage free eggs law that means they'd have to raise the price of EVERY plate that includes eggs by $1. Eggs use to be free money for a breakfast diner place...now they are a liability. Breaking an egg can put a meal into a loss.
    3. MA raised the Minimum wage from $13.50 to $14.25. That's 0.75 an hour x 10 employees x40 hours...That's an extra $300. To make $300 they have to sell 150 more plates a week. They can't absorb the costs and get out of the covid hole. This place probably does 40 plates on a weekday and makes it all on weekends/sundays (it's across from a church) there use to be standing lines of people on weekends waiting to eat...Not anymore. Everyone has been scared away. They even reinstated mask mandates in town...
They are exiting a 20 year business with ZERO walk away $$...DONE...

Sounds like they shoulda bootstrapped harder

Seattle lost a ton of its iconic smaller places over the last couple years. Places that weathered everything for 30+ years

don't get all broken up over it...

... and the Ridgeline? The truck with the spare tire under a panel in the bed? Where you're screwed if you get a flat while using the thing as a truck?

There's really only one answer to that question.
Would you like to retire this year, or at 65?

I kinda got used to $10-$30K swings.

I might need to adjust the meds for $100K daily swings.
