I’ve been told they can’t deliver. The vehicle I ordered was impossible and I was told to pick something else. It isn’t a matter of them not being able to make trucks. It’s the truck they advertised and I put money down the first day it was announced (electric lime green TRD Pro). So tell me how it’s slow when they say “we aren’t getting any as they are all sold out.”?

I would assume because it's a limited edition model, with only 1 of the 4 colors, which is going to be the most desirable color. From what I understand the Pros are made in the thousands, not tens of thousands. Those allocations will undoubtedly go to the biggest and best dealers in the country, and there are probably many would-be '21 Pro owners who have now hunkered down waiting for a '22 on the priority list, higher up on that list than anyone who started asking in the last 6 months.

So I feel your frustration, but I also don't feel like we can expect the same as a situation of someone waiting on a TRD OR in Gray. That's the real issue - how they can't get the high volume trucks out the door, how there were no OR's to buy in my region for MSRP for over a month. I do sincerely hope you get one, but in this case, it's either your dealer's clout, or the fact that it's the rarest tacoma that's going to be made this year. That's always been part of the allure of the Pro - not everyone who wants it, gets it. It's rare.

Pros have to be looked at as a subset apart from the other trims. Also, your dealer sounds kind of lame in that they're not trying to work for you very hard. The salesperson should at least have some determination to maybe trade for it or try to talk to the allocation manager some more. Sounds like they know they historically don't receive Pros even in good years and it's time to spread the odds to other dealers. If you really want one, you'd need to be calling everyone you can constantly trying to get on lists and put down deposits in multiple places (annoying but effective)

You are lucky, the people at Balise Toyota, can't even give me a temporary Vin #, i even ordered Lunar rock, but the sales "Woman" ( she doesn't Listen) wanted me to have Black, I said No I want Lunar rock.
if that truck comes in, and its black she can keep it.

This is what I did. I had deposits at two dealerships for a 22 Pro and after about 6 weeks of no allocations I started to look at other dealers websites everyday. Just so happened that one dealership had one pop up on their website in the color I wanted, called them immediately to see if it was sold and luckily enough it was not spoken for. I gave them a deposit right then and there.

They can't give you a temporary VIN because they don't have an allocated truck for you, you can only get one of those when the truck is confirmed to be allocated and built at some point.

This is the way. Constant searching and checking in on allocation day with a dozen dealers.

That's a fair price. Sucks someone has to make the effort to go to Greeley, Colorado - which is a shithole of a town - but for that price I guess it's worth it lol.

So glad I got mine summer of 2020 on $269/month lease. Who knew back then I'd be driving around pretty much for free almost 2 years in...

Toyota breaks up all of its dealerships into 12 regions. What you really want to do is place multiple deposits in multiple regions. It won't do you any good placing 3 deposits all next door to your house.

As an example. I placed 3 deposits in 3 regions on lime nd Grey PRO in a manual
3 deposits in 3 regions for a Solar Octane tundra.

One dealer called and said no manuals till March but I have an auto in lime. Soooo, I also sacrificed both my ideal trucks to just get a PRO. But I still have 6 chances out there and the tundra and manual tacomas won't even begin production for another 45 days. I want a manual tacoma PRO but if I have to roll in an automatic I'd rather have a tundra,, And I will sell the automatic for exactly what I have in it, not a cent more.

    Keep optimistic and stay alert.

That's kind of what I did. Knew I wanted LR, called around and found dealer 35 mins north of me that had a future allocation for one. No mark ups, gave them deposit that day. I'm in no rush as we have three vehicles right now that are just fine. Kind of funny though, looking like Tesla that I have ordered for the wife and delivery date are only likely maybe a week apart if truck is being built tomorrow.

This is more of a question - I called dealers all in the same region and they all get different allocations - for instance, my main dealer got a Trail, another got an OR - so maybe I misunderstand, but I do think it matters to also place at multiple same region dealers. I do agree though, new regions opens you up to new allocation pool of trucks. I think of it like a big natatorium - you have multiple pools, each is different water, so swimming in different pools will expose you to different variations. But different areas of one pool could still have different stuff in it.

Ok, that metaphor is deteriorating but you get my point.

I will confirm what has been said in this thread a few times, and I'm not speaking for ALL dealerships here...but some are only working locally. I called one today, given how long I've been waiting on one dealership, and they verified that I was in-state before even discussing getting on a Pro waiting list. So, this region thing might be tricky depending on the model/trim/dealership combo. BUT, it's a great concept, just probably a little more complex than it looks on paper.

You are correct. Some dealers in Montana, Nevada, Colorado, Oregon only work with locals while others do not. I had allocations requested in all those states. You have to get on the phone and make calls to multiple dealers. Also, some areas do not get manual transmissions allocated as much as other areas. I did discover that the bigger dealers at most places wanted $5,000 or more “market adjustment” which kept me away from them.

I really don't see paying the markups I am seeing locally (most of SoCal). I am trying to expand my search, but really don't see flying far away as too practical for me.

Actually, flying to a state out west (since it sounds like you are in California) is a helluva’ lot cheaper than paying the “market adjustment” they are asking in southern California and for what they wanted in my state. I saved a lot of money, believe it or not, plus made a road trip out of it on the way back.

I know back in the FJ days, Longo wouldn’t sell me one because I wasn’t a California resident. I asked jokingly if they would sell me a Camry for sticker if I had cash and they said, “Nope.” So I guess they were pretty serious about that policy.

When I’ve contacted dealers, I have always prefaced the communication with the fact that I was in Utah and was getting quotes from every dealership within a 10 hour fly and drive back radius.
