    I had a 3090 running on a 650w for a couple months non-issue. :lalala:

PS. The hard lock-up and crash makes me think shitty ram. Default everything in bios?

Not entirely sure how comparable it is, I've got one of those psu's that has the active wattage readouts, I'm running a 30-90 and a 9900k, currently both stock clocks not overclocked or anything right now but at full tilt theoretically 750 watts is enough fir me too and I've not seen it choochin' consistently more than about 680 watts, but I have seen peaks and spikes of 900+, if he has that instant ramp up draw it could be tipping over current protection.

A 2060 is a FAR cry from a 3090, wattage requirements wise. 160w tdp vs 350w. Unless his replacement supply is failing straight out of the box, 750w is fine. He needs to look elsewhere.

    Yeah.
Yeah, at this point it would be nice to have a spare system with compatible parts to start swapping in and out to try and isolate it. If it only does it while gaming, it makes me think GPU card, but bad RAM or a flaky mainboard is also a possibility. Rarely have I seen a CPU cause this kind of behavior. Maybe running some benchmark tests and monitoring components and temps would give a clue. Event Manager might give a good lead also, as was mentioned. I have seen some flaky storage devices cause oddness, but typically that just ends up with the drive becoming inaccessible and not a complete lockup.

CPU mounting pressure to much? Had that cause odd issues before.

Boot into a memtest86, let it run all day. That's all I trust to test RAM adequately.

PSU is more than wattage number, especially if overclocked. Wattage doesn't tell you how well it ramps to sudden load changes. Poor quality caps, or just undersized can cause voltage spikes on every rail when your GPU/CPU ramps suddenly. I ran a 600W for years until I realized it was causing problems. Then I forked out for a 1000W Gold EVGA and never looked back. (Bigger PSUs will have bigger caps and/or better regulation, relatively speaking).
ex: A 0.05-0.1V dip on your low voltage components at max frequency could definitely be enough to black screen you

This may sound silly but have you tried a chkdsk /f or a clean boot to a windows portable USB?

Thanks for all of the suggestions and help!

For reference this system is around 2 years old with the newest components being the CPU/MOBO/RAM all installed around October 2019. Already had the rest of the system prior to the upgrade. The PSU was pushing 8 years old which is why I figured it was on the fritz. The GPU is around 3 years old.

I have not, but that's an easy one to do. I'll try that tonight.

Yeah. I've ran this same setup for over 2 years with no change in components. PSU wattage definitely isn't the issue. You make a good point about the UPS. It's quite an old one. I'll it out for a direct wall connection to see if that has any effect. Thanks.

I've ran my 3200 @ 3600 for almost 2 years now. Wonder if something with the overclock is getting flaky? If the previous suggestions don't help I'll try downclocking the RAM back to factory specs. This Crucial Ballistix is supposed to be great for overclocking & Ryzen processors so it would surprise me for the problem to creep up now after years of stability but I know it's not unheard of.

I'll give it a whirl and report back. As well as the event viewer as mentioned by @Sterdog .

The issue is so intermittent it's been very difficult to diagnose. This is the first time it's happened in about a week or more and then it happens twice in the same night. :annoyed:

You guys have given me a great list of suggestions. I really appreciate it. Going to give everything a try and will report back. Thanks again.

    Yeah.
Well, after months of rejection, I finally got selected in the NewEgg shuffle. Scored an ASUS TUF Gaming 3070Ti and a TUF X570 motherboard. Same motherboard I used to build my daughter's gaming rig, so now I have a spare. The graphics card was supposed to be a Christmas 2020 present, lol.

Serious question: what games have even come out recently worth buying a $500+ GPU for?
