    Walked into Local Dealer 1-24-21.

Requested a 22' TRD OR SB in Celestial Silver Metallic, Premium Package ( Led, Leather, JBL, No MTM )

Build Sheet, Temporary vin and projected mid February Build all together with a Deposit.

No Markup on MSRP, Although I offered them a price adjustment to not apply the Xzilion coatings and to not wash, detail or touch the interior or exterior in any way, as I'll have my local Shop that was owned and ran with my Grandfather handle the initial wash, paint decontamination, correction and polish / wax theirsleves. ( Toyota, Nissan, Honda & Hyundai certified Collision Center, one of the staples in our town. )

I'm about 45 Minutes South of Chicago.

So I just had an interesting conversation with one dealer who claimed that they can in fact special order trucks directly from Toyota. Dealer claims it would arrive with the exact options I specify, within 6 months.

I've called maybe 30 dealers to check on allocation waitlists and this is the first time I've heard such a thing... Obviously I'm going to read the contract before I give them any money, but curious if anyone else has run into this? It directly conflicts with what I've heard from other dealers who claim they are at the mercy of regional distributors.

EDIT: Turns out this dealer is just completely full of shit. They could not provide me with any documentation and just wanted me to give them $ on their word. Le sigh.

I originally wanted a manual but after seeing how rare they were I decided to go for an automatic. As of this post there are only THREE 2022 Tacoma trd offroads 4x4 manual transmission lunar rock with leather seats available in the US that I can see, and 0 of those are in my area.

I called a dealer in CA today (01/25/2022) to ask about a 22' TRD off road 4x4 DCSB automatic with the leather seats in lunar rock. It's a super rare color so I was expecting to wait for months. The truck I was asking about was already reserved but they told me there was another one scheduled to be built in 2 weeks. Exact truck I wanted and I put my deposit down and was pre-approved for a loan. Expected wait time is 3-5 weeks from today.

This dealership has no markup, selling at MSRP, and I'm lucky enough to ONLY get the addons that I wanted and nothing extra.

I have my temp vin and spec sheet and am super stoked about how lucky I got.

I spent the past week scouring my area for Tacoma's of this spec and calling dealers and was always told either "this truck is already reserved" or "we have an x market adjustment." I chose to only look at dealers who are not upcharging above MSRP for their vehicles.

Here is the link where I was able to lookup every model of vehicle from toyota https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-inventroy-spreadsheet.714583/

I downloaded the excel spreadsheet of all dealers, and once a day I would sort the spreadsheet by the specific model I wanted and then input it to only show those vehicles. I would call the dealerships and ask about the truck until I got lucky. If you're looking to buy a new tacoma I'd highly recommend 15-20 minutes per day looking at this spreadsheet and calling dealerships.

After I finally find my truck, I'm going to have to take up stamp collecting to fill the void it will create. Because I'll miss all this stress, from spreadsheets, msrps markups, and dealer bullshit.

You could just do what (seemingly)the vast majority of new people on this forum do... pick the truck apart for every little fault. If you do, just make sure to put up a thread about it. On Friday.

I seriously do not understand those bitch or rant threads. It is almost as if they had no clue what they bought. :taco:

Ordered a 21 AC TRD OffRoad LED no leather no nav silver 1st week July 21 was told 6-8 weeks..got it early Dec 21, 17 weeks. Paid 500$ under msrp ..Truck turned out to be a 22 which is fine but I ordered my topper just after ordering the truck. the topper came in 4 weeks and Toy changed the silver paint slightly fr 21 to 22. Love the truck but no built in garage door opener bummer. My 2012 same truck has it.

This. I'm considering automating the process of comparing today's sheet vs yesterday's sheet to see what new trucks are around so I can quit wasting so much time on this.

Just wait 4 it bro. In 6 weeks, I'll post a new thread how my trucks headlights ice up, and how I want my old G2 back.

Lol... it never gets old. No shit bro LEDs don't produce heat. And anyone dumb enough not to think of that, should buy a Ridgeline. I can't tell you how many G3 tacoma discussions about headlights we have all endured

I can only imagine. I've seen a few myself. Read the whole LED bulbs in a halogen housing thread... now I look at other vehicles and just think what an asshat that person is.

This one is really cool! :mudding:
Sorry, I can be easily amused at times...

In all honesty though, in certain places like Alaska or Colorado, Montana switching LED back to halo is common. Until they heat the light housing if you live it, and have the time to change it. Why not. Just don't complain about LED if you live in Colorado.. it just proves you expect life to be easy

My 22 has garage opener in the rear-view mirror.

If yours does not, you can go this route, a Gentex mirror:

Yea as far as I know all dealer deposits are fully refundable, all they do is get you in line with that dealer for a truck

From what I understand, there are 11 people looking for some combination of LR.
If all 10 of them are looking for a short bed, I'm in luck.

    I really don't want a short bed.

At this point, the next time Santa Margarita calls me and offers me a truck for 1880 over invoice, I might be inclined to buy it.

11th in line for a LR colored truck.
No info given to me about what combinations the people in front of me are after.
I have gotten around in the mild offroad with my FWD equinox. I don't plan to do anything crazier with the truck, but I do occasionally want to use it to launch jet skis and my little jet boat, so 4wd is a must.
