I also wonder how hard it would be to implement a pneumatic jack system. There is plenty of space in these cars for it. Maybe it's a weight thing, but having the car do the work would also shave some time, then you just keep the manual jack points for added security or "emergency". I know there is a rule against them, but it really makes no sense other than to shave weight from the car. They already cut the number of team members allowed over the wall a long time ago, and apparently from a quick search online (could not find specific rules or regulations though) a jack operator has to be a certain size and weight to operate the jack. Probably not that strict if it is even a real thing, but just odd nonetheless.

It has more to do with it being STOCK car racing than it does the feasibility of changing these things. Yes I get the cars are far from stock but they can save that shit for F1. We are extremely close to NASCAR becoming IMSA.

F1 doesn't use pneumatic jacks. They also have no limit on "manpower" during pitstop's. Indy cars use the pneumatic jacks and the tanks are on the other side of the pit wall. I dunno, it was just a thought. Can you tell I just love racing no matter what style? The faster the better. Shake And Bake!

Totally agree. I know these cars are far from "stock", but its still stock car racing. They can leave the auto jacks for the indy cars. Should have left the 5 lugs nuts alone as well. And the number placement. Not a fan of this new shit. I'm gonna give it a chance, but this may be the straw that breaks the camels back for me.

Agreed. Nothing for this generation car does it for me. They don’t even sound right and the larger wheels really put the last nail in the coffin. We will see how it races but I don’t expect to be following very closely from here out.

My bad, Indy on the jacks but for me this is the issue. Not a dig at you but I don’t want to turn NASCAR into anything like any other form of racing. That is the appeal. It is the roots that makes it what it is and it seems that is what has been lost. There is a lot of skill that goes into a big dude holding heavy gas cans and the ability to change 5 lug nuts and a guy with a manual jack. Take those factors away and it turns into whoever has the most money wins. You remove the human element not to mention the soul of the sport. NASCAR lost its path years ago when skilled people stopped hanging sheet metal but up to this point it has provided glimpses of what I fell in love with. I never cared for any other form of racing. And now I don’t much care for this one either.

If someone started a series with cars built like they were in the 90’s that ran on tracks NASCAR abandoned, that would be something to see.

It will not be entertaining. These cars are in no way designed for what they are asking them to do. The real slap in the face is all the tracks with so much history that could really use an event like this and they take it to a football stadium in an area with virtually no fan base. Hell, they can’t even put asses in seats at Autoclub an hour away. Next they will have them drag racing or fuck it. Put monster tires under them and go crush some cars. Just like the dirt bullshit at Bristol. Welcome to NASCAR/Monster Jam. Where we charge you 10 times as much for something no one wants to see.

Last year was the last for me with both F1 and NASCAR. I quit F1 after the entire organization had to cheat to get the champion they were determined to get no matter what. If the sport stinks of being rigged, I'm gone. (plus I really hate the de-tuned engines in those things now - they sound more like lawnmowers than race cars).

As for NASCAR, whenever someone gets a string of wins going, they change the rules just to stop them. That's why (IMO) a couple of the better drivers "retired" in the past few years.

As for the "roots" of NASCAR, that's been a joke to me for decades. Pretending that a sport evolved out of moonshine runners, yet has to red flag a race where 2 drops of rain falls on the track is a joke. You mean to tell me no-one ever ran moonshine at night or in bad weather? Yea, sure.

Bring back racing in ALL weather, no stopping races for rain, and NO COMPETITION CAUTIONS (man that's just stupid). Make them actually race for the entire stated miles as well - like REMOVE THE STAGES. It's turned what was something really fun to watch into a joke (again, IMO).

I will probably watch the Daytona 500 cause 'reasons' and the INDY 500 (yea, indycar but it's a decent race) and probably a few others. But otherwise I'm kinda done with watching car races on TV.

It was announced today that the numbers will remain forward for Darlington throwback weekend, which is...... fine so long as they are throwing back to all the great Sportsman schemes of the early 80s, but that's real niche. And, according to reporters, the whole numbers thing wasn't even proposed by NASCAR, rather, it was the RTA that wanted it and with no wiggle room for interpretation. So, much of my frustration is with the RTA rather than NASCAR brass this time.

I have tickets to three races and I only have these tickets because of rainout and/or Covid credits from the past two seasons. I'll tune in for Daytona, attend Atlanta, Martinsville, and Talladega and that's it for me. I'm all but done with this league. I'll still go to my beloved dirt tracks and bullrings, even though money threatens to ruin these as well.

All I can see when they get to the USC Trojans stadium is it's going to be follow the leader with it being such a tight and short track. Every time someone tries to pass they are going to hit the wall and the yellow is going to come out. And has anyone seen a pit road yet? Is it out in the parking lot?
