You can mess with the fog relay or get a Brite Box (although I remember those caused a truck fire around here). OR, you can just make a new harness, add a push-switch for your fogs, and have independent control over them. Third option is incredibly simple.

With the Bright Box anytime are the fogs always on with the high beams? Does this mean they can only be switched off on a separate switch? I would love to just have the select ability with the factory switch without adding anything else.

With the third option would the factory switch become useless or would it still work with low beams? I guess I wouldn’t mind just running my fogs directly to my switch-pros.

It would be pointless unless I built a splitter (not hard, just more work). Luckily there are 1,234,102 non-fog light stalks on eBay for cheap (SRs swap them out all the times). So you wouldn’t have a nonfunctional fog setting on your light stalk.

Serious question since I can't do it on my truck.... If you turn on the fogs with the brights does it actually add that much visibility to the sides of the road in clear conditions?

Regardless... It seems less complex to just add ditch lights which you can aim towards the side of the road. No matter what you do your fogs are still mostly designed to shine straight ahead.

The only reason I can see this mod being a benefit over other options is to keep a stock look.

With stock fog lights it might not be a huge difference in output. But my SS3 Max fog lights are insanely wide and bright, they do a great job of illuminating deer that are lurking near the edges of the road.

But it adds more overall light and the high beams have a different light pattern than the lows.

Like I said.... Just curious how they work together. I understand the beam pattern of fogs doesn't change but I've just never seen it combined with high beams.

He is saying take note of what you can see on the side of the road with the fogs. Then turn on your brights and take note again. Using fixed objects, conclude which one you can see more with.

In my experience, while they put down a lot of light, my DD SS3 Pro fogs do not meaningfully add to what I can detect with low beams at highway speeds on a clear night. Yes they light up things to the side that my low beams do not, but this is so far to the side that it is functionally useless driving at highway speeds. Further, it decreases the distance at which I can detect things in front of me using the low beam pattern.

As detecting a deer far enough out that I have time to react and brake is of significantly more value than detecting one that is too close to slow down for, I do not run my fogs unless it is in inclement weather. Even then, if it is a light rain/snow the fogs reduce detection distance.

The fogs are invaluable when a tractor trailer passes going the opposite direction on a 2 lane highway in the snow and visibility drops to only a few feet for a moment.

The low beams stay on when high beams are on (at least on my truck, I have verified this), so it is not possible for the difference to be more pronounced.

Same with my 2020 LED headlights, the high beams go on top of the low beams.

No. Your factory fog lights turn on solely with the fog light OEM Push Button Switch next to your Cargo Light Switch.
(If you twist the turn signal/headlight mode stick switch up one click you are in Auto Mode, up one more is in Daytime Running Light (DRL)/ Parking Light Mode) and the third and final click is Low Beam Headlight Mode..
The factory fog lights will be able to be turned on in all three of these modes.

*IF* You want to be able to run your factory fog lights without any other lights on (being in Auto, DRL or Low Beam Mode as mentioned above) then you have to purchase the Bright Box Anytime kit AND a seperate switch which seems like a pain and completely unnecessary since I run my super bright Cali Raised Amber LED fog lights on in Daytime Running Light mode (Factory white DRL LED setting) if I only want my fog lights on..

To turn on your high beams you must push the turn signal/headlight stick switch forward and it will stay in that position but will not allow fog lights to be on for safety purposes in heavy fog situations..
Introduce BrightBox which bypasses this so if your not an idiot, you Can have full lighting brightness if you aren't around other vehicles/oncoming traffic and are simply trying to have maximum frontward brightness in the middle of nowhere and are not an idiot and turn on your high beams in dense fog.

A: Yes. (And yes you Can do this on your truck, see my post above about BrightBox)
Many people upgrade their stock fog lights with brighter fog lights / pods to be able to see farther ahead and to the side of the vehicle, mainly for off roading or back roads where you don't want to catch a soft shoulder or smash a deer.

I upgraded to the 6 x 3 Cali Raised Amber Pod Kits and they light up the road 1/2 mile ahead and 1/4 mile to the side. Super beneficial in all conditions; Clear, Light Rain, Heavy rain, Light Fog or Snow when I don't want my low beam (and definitely not high beam) headlights on. You can see the road perfectly with only the amber fogs without the headlights reflecting the light off the fog/snow light back at you/the windshield.

Finally someone on here understands and has a valuable comment on what our lights are used for. Thank you very much.

I can certainly understand your taking exception and disagreeing with his opinion, but to insult someone about there age this way is pretty low, especially when you tell them they need hospice, which is for the terminally ill. As you get older your eyes get less tolerant of driving at night, but it doesn't mean you can't drive at all. You will be older one day. See how you feel when someone makes fun of you. It's not pleasant.

    A bunch of junk

Don't give me much to look forward to with the eyes situation. I'm 31 and I use driving glasses at night (polarized yellow lenses) as they tremendously reduce glare from lights. I recommend them for anyone! They especially help with bad weather. That and a ceramic coated windshield.

I'm 64, and while it's not as easy to drive at night as it used to be 30 years ago, I can still do it safely when I need to. If I have a choice and don't absolutely need to drive at night I will put it off till its light outside. The trick is knowing your limitations as you age and working within them safely. I can still enjoy driving my Taco and riding my Honda Goldwing safely and without difficulty. Don't worry, everything doesn't go to hell :)

Thank you for your relevant input. I did some hunting to be helpful for others and found this website has the Bright Box for $94.99 and use the code “TAKE15OFF” for 15% off making it $80.74 with free shipping here:
The Brite Box for Toyota Tacoma
(I recommend getting the Fogster so you don't have to buy a secondary switch which is pointless when you can turn on your foglights anytime when you are in Daytime Running Light (DRL) Mode).
