Then we agree! Neither of us understands why 99% of taco owners buy these.

Its not just about the purpose thee hold. I like the extra tie down points on my TC fab bed stiffeners and since i now have a bedrack and traction boards and an awning the weight adds up and offroading a decent amount with it all so I found it necessary. Buy once cry once. My tailgate closes great!

Show me proof that "99%" of Tacoma owners buy these for starters. Far more people will buy a 4x4 Tacoma and never need it than will buy these (and far fewer than 99% of Tacoma owners have 4x4s). You would be better off asking why people pay for that.

Anyway, clearly you have never driven on a highway with frost heaves. I can get airborne driving the speed limit on paved, major highways.

My 2nd generation had 260,000 miles on it, and most of those miles were spent in the Sierra Nevada hunting deer and bear. That truck had more pinstriping than paint. I intend to do the same with my 2022. I never encountered a need for bed stiffeneres, and will never in the future. Neither will the majority of you. Unless you are doing serious off-road speed racing, there is absolutely no need. But it's your money. I just hope I can provide a different perspective for new truck owners who think they need these.

Er, my tailgate closes great, too. Hopefully those "tie down points" don't make you cry when you need to haul sheets of plywood.

I think you've made your point. Obviously there are some people who are incurring the time and cost to install these things who don't truly need them.

But, I think for most of the people who are doing so, it's because they are placing significant weight onto the bed with camper shells and/or bed racks and/or tents, etc. You seem to be ignoring that rather critical component of this. And there are plenty of examples of trucks who have experienced this problem due to the downward pressure from carrying that excessive weight.

Couple hundred bucks and a few hours to buy peace of mind is hardly a high price to pay.

I just purchased the total chaos. The peace of mind is worth the $200 (price obviously went up but that's including shipping).

Sounds like you’ve had some fun! And I get the marketing aspect for this. For me personally it has helped since I camp a lot and use a cargo net to cover everything l. The stiffners allow for mounting caribiners and ect. Its also peace of mind for myself and probably many others. I do offroad a lot and with the added weight now, I like the security of it. I also know that Toyota wouldnt produce their vehicles intentionally with this problem so it’s obviously nothing major. As ive thought and as you said,….. its my money

I don’t mind spending a couple hundred bucks to reinforce a weak spot (at least for some people) on an almost $50K truck, especially since I have a camper shell and I do flex the suspension out here and there. They sure aren’t gonna hurt, bolting 3/16” steel brackets to pretty much anything is going to make it stiffer and stronger than it was before. A sheet of plywood fits perfectly between the TCs without tilting it BTW.

i went with the total chaos but purely for the additional tiedown points and ease of installation. the 4wp ones are pretty good for the price however and appear to provide much more support/be stronger simply due to its design.

Looks like some people say they need them and some dont. For me im gona put a RTT with a family of 4 up top in the bed so ill take the extra reassurance. Its like insurance, you buy it not because you plan on using it, but because its there as a safety net. You could prob drive uninsured a majority of your life and never need to prove you have it, but youll be glad you have it once you do

$200 for the Total Chaos to my address. I will have a 350# topper mounted full-time in a couple weeks. Just insurance- and additional tie-downs for the bed!

i've got the total chaos one's because they had cool stickers, nice t-shirts, and no matter how many tiedown points i have, it's never enough.

$200 for a few extra tiedown points in an otherwise awkward spot in the bed is a perfectly fine price to me.

oh, yeah, i guess they stiffen the bed, increase fuel mileage, and make me look more attractive. or something.
