So sorry Russ. Were they from your house?

Please reach out if needed. There are resources available both local and through the union.

I'd ride on those trails! I wonder how a KLR 650 would do on those?

So can anyone lay some knowledge on me and please explain why these SCS wheels are so hyped up? I get the fact that they look good, and are hub-centric… but what’s the hype over? There’s many good wheel companies out there that are hc, light weight, focused around Toyota and other Japanese style vehicles and trucks, and look just as good… i.e. Volk-Rays, Enkei, BBS, Axis, etcetera… Why the hype?

I ask bc I’m going to be getting a new set of wheels very soon. Right now I am a bit torn…
-Volk TE37’s (Japan) but it’s the price that sucks! But has been THE BEST of the best for years and years.
-Enkei RPT1’s (Japan) have loved these for years and now made for trucks! Light weight and have 5 decades of a premium reputation! Not to mention the choice wheels of F1 and Team McClaren!
…and now bc of you guys…
-SCS Gen5’s (Tailand) they were never a thought before bc I want 18” wheels. But now I’m curious… White wheels would be awesome against the MGM Taco, price is right, not sure about the whole Tailand thing though.

So thats the gist of it… any input welcome!

We were likely at the same ones. I would go to those too. My nieces step dad and step brother are BPD currently.

Everyone knows the city is in serious decay, from the inside out, and yet, senseless acts happen every day. Our families raised us in Baltimore. Not quite downtown, but in outlying neighborhoods. Russ or Dave would know where the Highlandtown or Ellwood Park areas are. I grew up in the unit block of Potomac St. and Deb Grew up on McElderry St. I wouldn't recommend either today. We were not perfect but we cared. Still care.

This is why, to this day I do not believe any military, or first responders should have to pay taxes, period. I'd rather my portion go to that than where it goes now.

My last day at work and all my Jeep jokes caught up with me. I just had a wrangler blow hot coolant on me burning my shoulder. In my 24years of turning wrenches I never had this happen, heard many stories tho. Doesn't look to bad but damn it burns like hell. Luckily it didn't get my face and damage my good looks lol.

I remember you offering, as well as some others, but I was not going to put anyone through that. We're still boyz tho! I'm working on my googeeness too. Plus the accident was still fresh.........I ultimately got screwed by State Farm and will eventually leave them after almost 40 years. I did get some equity back so thanks to @Fire Arrow Jim and his son, who was a Toyota salesman at the time. I used that to get a fantastic deal on what I am driving now.

Time to go play with the dogs........

I've got friends and family in BPD and BCFD past and present. I'm impressed with people who have stuck it out in Baltimore through the years. I was born and raised in Randallstown with family in Pikesville, Highlandtown, Hamden, Catonsville, Eldersburg, Ellicott City and so on. Luckily, I was blissfully ignorant of the violence growing up. I worked in Timonium a few years back, but now I avoid driving to the city altogether.

I think a lot of it for some people, the ones making it impossible to find them, are just like guys into anything that is represented by, associated, with, or as in most cases, just hyped up. Take for example, and in by know way am I attacking, rather, since you are obviously passionate, you'll understand. BMX, FOX, what do these companies have over some ma & pa company working through the night to produce the same quality gear? Know what I mean?

Now, in the case of BMX and FOX, they are 100% proven in the field companies that have great looking easily recognizable logos. The global BMX bikes market was valued at $230.2 million in 2020, and is projected to reach $381.8 million by 2030, registering a CAGR of 5.1% from 2021 to 2030. Fox Racing, generates the same annually. If you were in the market to buy stock, or wear some cool as gear, then these are your go to's.........

So, point is, I grew up riding a BMX, you know how many years ago that was? Sheesh, it hurts my head. So even today, if I were faced with the choice between BMX & FOX or some other brand, and could afford the premium, I might go that route depending on what it is.

I will also agree with anyone that complains that acquiring a set of wheels shouldn't be so hard to do. Especially if you're going to wheel in them and stand a chance of destroying one. In most of the free world, if you can't manage your supply, and someone else can, well, business is business. However, SCS is a small small business. Perhaps they know that by servicing two makes, the two most popular makes of off road vehicles, with a limited supply, then then are always riding a wave of black ink. I have talked with one of the the owners personally (not in person) and he was never anything but a gentleman, honest and receptive to my needs. Basically, important things to me when I spend hard earned money. And I don't anyone whose isn't.

That brings me to looks. So you have the reputation of the company, and honestly, as far as wheels go, the prices are not terrible. You also have the cult following making them harder to come by. Then you have choices of some very interesting colors besides black. I have seen Matte Black, Matte Bronze, Silver, and my Coppers, and the wheels are various shades of each depending on the light. Mine would go from Gold to Bronze. Then you have the designs. They are simplistic in form but the lines are soft, and not overdone with clutter. I would like to see the bead lock rings come in various colors, like red. But otherwise I like all the models. When I had them some younger men were in an open jeep at the light one day, and they all did the "nod of approval" and the one said, "those SCS wheels are nice, my cousin has a set on his CJ, I've never seen them in gold".

At the cheesesteak meet the other day there were some rigs there and two had red wheels. I looked hard. Would I run any of the brands you listed? Of course. If they are equal to or better than OEM wheels I will run them. I bet each has a two or three piece model. Price that fkr. If I thought for a minute I would be airing down to extremes all the time I would get street legal bead locks. At the Mall we don't have to do that so I have the upper hand.

My best advise to you Mike, buy what you need first, what you can afford second, and what tickles your fancy last. I have seen some great combinations that weren't SCS, and that are readily available, in stock at local places. Definitely do what makes Mrs. Taco1004 happy too, but also what makes you happy.

BS BS BS!!! This is some beefy young guys arm in the first photo!

and this looks, is that, uh, yea, maybe, uh, it appears to be the glaze from a bear claw you got on there while you were trying to snag a tuna salad sandwich out of the vending machine and you got your arm stuck.

No shade to anybody here with SCS wheels but IMO, they are way overhyped. They are the Instagram trendy wheel that people resell for almost the same price they bought them new. I personally don’t get the hype. I won’t lie, they do look good. The bronze is probably the next best bronze besides Method.
