Does anyone else notice SIRI cannot recognize the word "Puts"...Every time I say "Puts" it types pots or pits...even if I use a british accent or a dumb as rocks southern accent...

 

"Smart" assistants suck, no matter how much we pretend they're super useful.

They (poorly) perform a very limited, predefined set of tasks and cannot deviate from or modify said tasks.

Yes we can yell at a robot and have it schedule (with lots of limitations) calendar events, set timers/alarms, add items to our shopping lists, etc. But really those are all simple tricks once you get voice recognition (sort of) working. These assistants don't really do "smart" things though and require tedious work to integrate with other IoT systems/devices.

Alexa (and maybe Siri, too) mainly exist to get you into a specific walled garden, then foie gras you with their products and services.

 

Went from up $600 to down $160 to now sitting down $0.27.... what is this trash.
