What's diff with the 2nd gen?

 

Technically you can interchange them but I’m picky about fitment.

2nd gen one is taller, so when installed on a 3rd gen the top of the topper will be taller than the roof of the cab.

3rd gen tailgate is fat at the top compared to the skinny top of the 2nd gen tailgate. So the rear panel of the softopper designed for the 3rd gen is longer/larger to cover the entire top of the tailgate. So that part doesn’t really fit/look right when installed on the wrong truck.
