Are GPUs gonna ever go down to MSRP or am I stuck either running a Zotac 1060 AMP! forever or shelling out 2-3x MSRP for a new card?

I sold my 5 year old GTX 970 last year for $20 less than I originally bought it for new. Was wack.

Are 30 series cards even worth it if I'm still running 1080p because I don't want to shell out money for a large 4k monitor?

    Consider a 1440p?

Depending on ones budget, 1440p monitors can be had for not much $.
Will have factor in type of panel, size, refresh rate etc..

Nah. Hell Nvidia raised it's msrp.

With 4000 series cards, Intels new cards around the corner prices will still be crazy.

Future proofing in the PC gaming world nowadays will cost you a kidney, arm... Testicle if your brave enough. lol

Yea no such thing. It's all relative to what you use it for and what you intend on doing with it for the next however many years. I made a 6700k/1070 last til 2021... Then dual 4k upgrades and I plan on pushing this 11700/3080 ti for just as long - probably longer. The next game that's gonna stress my setup is gta. And we all know that's gonna be a while out. Hell, I'll scale the resolution if I have to and the only reason I truly upgraded was uncle Sam back pay. But the cost has been on the rise and always will be. I chuckle seeing these "gonna wait until the market stabilizes" posts. Even consoles are overpriced now. I can't imagine doing both like the old days. Gotta know your limits and compromise like with everything else in life.

Personally, I think a huge issue is an attempt to be accepted on social media and the likes. "If I spend this much, have this setup, it gives me bragging rights" and so on and so forth... When in reality we'd all be just fine with a laptop or a 1080p setup. But yep, let's just keep pushing til we hit 88k tvs and 600hz monitors with $20k GPUs to run em... Nah. I'm good. I won't be spending this much ever again.

Apex, COD, hell there's even 360hz monitors now for CS:Go. It's like Tacoma's. Some folks leave them stock and cheap. Some folks throw superchargers on them for $7k that only yield a 20% faster truck. Knocking either though makes you a Fortnight kiddo ;).

If you don't feel you need an upgrade, don't upgrade. Really that's the best answer.

    this.

I only upgrade when I need to most of the time. Sometimes it's fun to just upgrade for the tiny benefit, but being frugal(ish) I flow that way.

I'm still on 75 hz monitors and an old quadro card. frame rate is good enough to game and I can still render as needed.

    Yeah.
I used to give my kids my hand-me-down parts. Now it's the other way around. I can't (won't) afford to keep 3 decent gaming PC's going. I personally stick to console for gaming, but I'm not in to racing or flight sims, so it's enough for me. I have Stadia for anything PC that I really want to play. It's . . . ok.

I only post if there's something to post about, IE building it the first time or adding a custom water cooling loop.

It's more about a sense of accomplishment, like cutting up the bedsides to install a high clearance bumper or something like that lol

I think it's less the 'social media' thing, and more the "If I buy 8 30 series cards I can mine bitcoin" or the "If I buy 8 cards I can sell them for double on Amazon"

I only post my truck on social media aka Instagram. I don't think I've posted on my fb page in 3 years. I have posted shit for sale though in a local group.

Well yea, now. But it's been a populatiry contest for a while, sincer the 9 series cards. And, if your timing was right, you could have done the same thing for profits back on the 10 series cards. There is always a demand for the "I want it now" crowd.

This site & PCPP is the only "social media" I have. And sometimes even it makes me contemplate life choices ;)
