My opinion on OT is this: Lose it for the regular season (making ties much more relevant), and, for playoffs, simply make it so that each team gets a drive starting on the 25, and the game either continues or ends based on the score at the end of the second team's drive.

 

I agree with regular season ties, but playoffs need a winner.

For the playoffs I think an OT period of 10 minutes with insurance each team gets the ball at least once. Second overtime if the first possessor uses all 10 minutes (whether they score or not) at which time the ball is turned over to the other team for a minimum of say...3 minutes?

You could make the argument that the defense needs to step up if they want their team to have a chance with the ball, and I'd get it.. but both QBs were hot that night. Just felt like the coin toss was the deciding factor

Yeah, which is why I think simple baseball extra innings-type rules make sense. Both teams get a chance. If the first team scores a TD with extra point, the second team can either lose (not score), tie to continue (TD with extra point), or win (TD with 2-point conversion).

Edit: As far as the clock? Lose it in OT, aside from the play clock.

If they score, opponent gets one possession to tie/beat that. If they tie, next score wins. If they beat it, game over. If they don't score, game over.

If they surrender, next score wins.

If you want to win then make a play on defense. Other teams have done it and won or not done it and lost. Somebody has to make a stop to win, sudden death for a td gives it immediacy.
