First of all I am a previous tacoma owner who loved my 2010. Second good luck finding a manual shift to test drive. It was an honest serious question and if you can't give a constructive answer then you should STFU.

I'm actually considering that. Found one to test drive tmrw. Luckily I have great insurance so if I want to switch trucks all I have to do is leave it in neutral near a cliff and let the insurance do the rest!

Triggered. Sweet. But consider that you never mentioned the '21, only complained about giving up your 2010, and your profile shows a 2010. And if you hang out here long enough you'll find lots of complaints about things from folks that a simple test drive would have revealed. Including the days before low inventory was an issue.

You are correct that a test drive would not be expected to be needed between a '21/'22, power wise, even going from auto to manual.

As far as constructive answer, did you even open the link I provided for a ProCharger and tune success story? Did you not read the line about re-gearing?

    Enjoy your day.

Those are the two things that I would also recommend. They made the biggest difference for me in my 2018. Tune (OVTune / KDMAX) and accumulator delete (makes a big difference in the clutch feel/engagement)
I eventually made the decision to go back to a second gen and I am SO much happier with the 4.0. You just gotta figure out what works best for you. It's very difficult finding manuals these days. I had to travel 3 hours to get my current Taco.

    Long Live the Manuals! :burnrubber:

My 2020 sr5 v6 auto does alright performance. While it doesn't have the low end my tundra v8 had, its not slow, and delivers decent performance below 1600 rpm. I've seen what some could be complaining about with their v6 tacoma's as a buddy of mine did with the 2019 trd he once owned. That truck was a dog imo. Some just run much better than others....why idk.

This is true. I test drove two 2017 SR5s, one of which I bought. Both had similar miles and the one I passed on was noticeably less responsive. No idea why. These were low mile trucks so even if someone was hard on it, I don't think you could rag a Tacoma out within 15 miles. Plus they both looked brand new so it wasn't like they were tearing it up off road.

I wasn't exactly easy on my truck breaking it in....did some towing (a bit less than 2k lbs.) with less than 500 miles on the odo over a 150 trip. Truck has been fine...better than i can ask for.

FWIW. Power does not come from the gears.

Power comes from the engine displacement related to the rate of burning fuel/air mix.

YOU want more power, then you need more engine. Supercharger and Turbo add-ons are just that.....add-ons. The power increase is limited by the engine.

It may be possible to drop in a small turbine from a helicopter. Gearing and transmission could be troublesome. But you will have scads of power and ability to thaw out the car behind you.

I would start with a tune. I paid roughly $400 for a Kdmax pro tune and the results are crazy. Don’t get new gears unless you are getting huge tires and a lift. I have the oem lift and 32” wheels, the tune makes the truck drive amazing, I promise, probably the only performance mod that you’ll need. There’s probably a tuner in your area.

FYI the scoop doesn't actually do anything. It's just there for looks. All show and no go!

you can get a tune, KD MAX is popular. you're lucky you got the V6, no tunes available for the new I4s.

    DIY Fabricobbler.

Change your expectations, or take the time to learn how this engine likes to be revved.

It's a good thing you have the manual already, otherwise I would have suggested getting a manual.
