We talk about the scosche kit near the start of the thread. You have to cut it up a bit to use them, but it secures it better.

I have verizon and tether my phone with the headunit. Granted you need to be on a upper tier plan to get tethering.

They've talked about T-Mobile on here maybe Google Fi. Since I updated to the most recent software on hu the wireless Android auto is great for me . 5G is pretty nice addition .

I have T-Mobile and my iPhone connects perfectly to the stereo. I haven't explored getting a separate SIM card for the stereo as I use CarPlay 99% of the time.

Yeah, I had thought about getting a dedicated sim for my truck, but it just didnt seem worth it when I can just tether or use android auto.

It may have already been anwsered in this forum but has anyone had issues with the steering wheel controls on the left side? I cant raise or lower volume or change songs. Other than that I havent had any issues with the radio.

Have you setup CanBus to a vehicle of your choice in the settings?
Edit:Check if Canbus In connector is plugged into Canbus Out on the back of the unit.

Anyone have issues with the mic? I’ve tried both the internal and external ones. Callers on the other end complain about static noise that happens randomly. This is using an iPhone. It happens in both CarPlay and when connected just with Bluetooth.

No mic issues on my side. I have used CarPlay several times and no one has said they had trouble hearing me or any static on the line.

Did you use the wired mic or the built in one? What version of iOS are you using? If you used the wired one where did you place it? Thanks.

My wife complains she can't hear me from the built in mic. She describes it as I'm about 20 ft away from the phone. Is there a setting I can change the mic sensitivity?

I've been following this thread even before I bought my Tacoma last summer. Here are some of my thoughts on the Joying head units. The Joying I put in my Tacoma is the second one I installed. The first one I did a few months prior in one of my other cars and is a 10.25” floating screen. It’s a single DIN and is WIDE and skinny. It looks cool and I thought I’d grow to like it, but honestly I’m not real happy with it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/382941984330

But this post isn’t about that thing, it’s about the 9” Joying I put in my Taco. I like how it looks OEM and for me it “feels” much better than that wide thing in the other car. This is the Joying I installed in my Tacoma: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KD68BZT?smid=AA5DG9OALOPXX

So I updated the firmware to get wireless Android Auto in the Tacoma. Joying’s firmware update page can be a bit confusing. This is the update I used:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PxCHxGgQ-RQ_Buo3WrF2X1ICMGwRP-Km/view

So wireless Android Auto works great, no complaints there. There are a couple quirks, though. The first I was ready for, but it kinda pissed me off. I spent the past few months tweaking my Taco’s Joying to where I was comfortable with it. I use Nova Launcher on both of my Android HUs as it gives you a lot of options for configurations and I like its interface much better than Joying's or the Agama. So when I updated the firmware all of those settings were GONE. It’s basically a clean wipe of the head unit and now I have to redo all the stuff I did. Ugh… Like I said, I knew I would have to do this, but it’s frustrating.

The other quirk, well, quirks is that I still cannot change the °C to °F on the top part of the screen. If I’m using Android Auto it’s not a big deal because it disappears and shows °F anyway. The last thing is that the up/down button on the left side of the steering wheel is still opposite of stock in that you push down to advance to the next track. I know, I know, minor quibbles.

    Just some other notes.
    • When I did the install I used the Scosche kit. Chopping 10mm off the front of the brackets gives a nice fitment. Looks good.
    • I installed the Joying mic in the stock location above the driver’s head. Joying’s mic audio quality isn’t the greatest and I knew this from the other install I did. By comparison, the mic in my son’s car (Pioneer head unit and remote mic) sounds fantastic, nice and clear even with his sunroof open.
    • The EQ has zero effect on the subwoofer outputs making the lower bands totally useless for those who use external amps.
    • The output from the Joying RCAs is WEAK. And noisy. There’s no clipping, but I have to crank the gain on my amps to get more out of them. It’s annoying when you hear corresponding noises through the speakers as you drag your finger across the screen. I might install a line driver down the road in hopes to clean it up. Granted, it’s not so noticeable when I’m driving down the road but it still annoys me.
Overall I’m OK with the 9” Joying in the Tacoma for now. Would I buy another? Probably not. But I don’t know, it’s hard to say. I’ll keep playing with it over the next few months and see if I can tweak it more to my liking.

My apologies if it says it earlier in this thread, but do you know where to go to change your reverse lines, or remove the stock ones?

Your issues are valid for sure, but you get what you pay for. This Joying unit really cant be compared to a Pioneer or any other name brand deck. For $350 you get wireless CarPlay or wired Android Auto and a big screen that looks OEM. Thats a good deal in my mind even though the unit has its issues and flaws.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to purchase some random microphone from eBay or Amazon and use it to replace the mic that comes with the Joying unit? Ive heard its really hard to hear me when using it, and if I unplug it and use the built-in mic its better but still not as clear as I'd want it.

Figured maybe a better quality external mic to replace the one it came with could be the solution, but I'm not sure if it would be plug and play

Having some random issues, literally started after sitting all weekend. Car link will not connect. I’ve tried to unpair, disconnect and restart the unit. It gets to this screen and stays there. I may try the reset button on the face, as I’ve just rebooted the unit from the drop down.

Anyone have any ideas? Bluetooth will work, just carlink won’t fully connect.

Yes, I have had this happen too. I opened my phone and turned Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off then back on. I also hit the home button on the stereo and then opened carlink again keeping my phone unlocked and ready to turn off Bluetooth or Wi-Fi again if needed.

This usually fixes the issue but pushing the reset button may also fix it.

I tried turning bluetooth off, unpairing, re-pair it. It still just sits on that screen. I'll probably run out to my truck on lunch and see if I can push the RST button. I will also try the Wi-Fi as well, as I didn't do that this morning. Thanks!
