Can the 2.7L handle 33s?

I have an xtra cab 2.7L with the 4:30 gear ratio. I was looking at some 33x10.5 R15 tires, but would there be too much power loss? If I still wanted to go with 33s, how much would it cost to re-gear?

 

My girlfriend just bought 33x10.5x15's and I put them on her truck yesterday. She has 2.5" of lift and they didn't rub at all. I didn't notice a power loss either. I'll post up a pic in a second.

I had a 98 reg cab with the 2.7, I put 33x12.50s on it and had no problem at all with power or mpg, and I had the automatic with 4.10s. Also had 33x14 boggers on it for a few months and it did fine they were just too loud!

Are you asking me? If you are than they are 33x10.5x15, they aren't metric, so they are the actual measurements. They are the tire before the KM2's, BFG KM's.

 

I regeard my front and rear for $1500 with 4.88s (that includes all parts and labor). Powerloss is mostly felt when going up hills and it is significantly noticeable but the gears fix all of that.

how come some people say without a regear even 32's would kill power/mpgs/all that shit yet some others say that they are gettin away with 33's just fine? askin cus i wanna get 32's on my taco with an ome880 and a 4banger but still cant find a good answer on what will happen.

 

The tire size calculator shows that 33s are right down the middle in regards to the factory gear ratio I have, but it doesn't take into account the little 4-banger under my hood.

 

the regear doesnt add more power but it makes it unleashed sooner and allows it to be available when going up hills. It will improve mpgs at lower speeds but decrease mpgs at higher speeds. The people who get around just fine are the ones who drive on flatter terrain and mostly on the highway without stop and goes. When offroading and crawling up rocks/hill the gears definitely allow for more of the trucks power to be available.

 

the offroading i do is light. fire trails, maybe a little mud (as much as a 2wd can handle) so for the most part its street driven

 

With 4.30's you'll be golden.

 

It can handle it for sure. i have 295/70/17s 33.5 by 12 on my 2.7 with 4.10 gears. when i climp hills or pull some one out i just use low gear.

 

it doesn't take into account any engine... into the diff 500RPM from a v6 is the same as 500RPM from a i4
