Most likely you are correct, because I don't know shit about any of this. I do feel like I read conversions fall into a different category altogether, called Other. Of course since this is off an airsoft pistol conversion it's all mute.

When it comes to a rifle in the state of MD, there are way too many rules and loop-holes. To the best of my knowledge, this is what I believe to be true…

As for a rifle with a “non shoulder-able pistol brace”, it has to be registered through your FFL as a Pistol. And I believe have a barrel length of less than 16”. But I don’t believe there to be laws regarding mounting a cheek riser or pad to a pistol stock. Mainly, that’ll depend on the interpretation of the law by an officer, how you compose yourself if anyone were to confront you about it, or what you did to be questioned.

If you were to put a “shoulder-able” stock on it, folding or non folding, with a barrel length under 16” you must file it as an SBR and that involves filing with ATF as well. But the catch is, in MD, an SBR must still be a minimum of 22” total rifle length. If the stock is adjustable, you may extend it fully to meet the 22” law. I ran into this problem with my SBR build when I filed… my rifle was only 18” with the stock extended. Had to add a flash can and pad to the stock and think I made it by 3/4”! Few!!

Anything with a barrel length of 16” or greater is considered to be a Long Gun… unless it’s on the list of “banned rifles”. If it falls on this list, like many Colt non heavy barrels, well your just screwed. Maryland sucks when it comes to fun!

Again, this is just what I am trying to remember from my short years as a collector and builder. Laws change more often than not, and by time you think you know them all… they get rewritten.

    …SBR I built

I'm still looking because I think this is old data:

This proposed rule would not affect “stabilizing braces” that are objectively designed and intended as a “stabilizing brace” for use by individuals with disabilities, and not for shouldering the weapon as a rifle. Such stabilizing braces are designed to conform to the arm and not as a buttstock.

This is true but if you ad a cheek pad then it’s intended purpose is now to shoulder it ..Ita a very fine line you would be walking .If you choose to do this I wouldn’t transport it any where assembled .Was this conversion kit you bought designed to shouldered like a rifle or designed to be still a pistol with a brace and how does the atf define the kit that is the real question especially since they constantly change there definitions .

That Matco tool cart I bought used for $250 a few years back. I wanted a red Snap-On to match my toolbox but I couldn't find a good deal on a used one, and I wasn't paying $1500 for a new one.

True… but if it’s a “brace” then who is to say that it isn’t just a “pad” for the arm or hip? I mean with a pad or cheek riser, it’s still meant to be a brace and that will always be its main purpose.
I believe it all comes back again to the simple way of how you compose yourself. If your at a public range, and emptying mags faster than you can count, and draw unwanted attention… well there’s that. If your out on your own land, do whatever you want. I’ve had my Class II firearms out many of times, suppressed and not, running way more than “10 round mags” and have yet to have a problem. I’ve even had off duty State Troopers at the range come over and admire my builds, ask to shoot them and never once has anyone ever questioned any of their legalities or paperwork or anything… I composed myself with being friendly and knowledgeable. But most importantly, I showed being safe.
Adding a pad is the last thing any officer is going to be worried about. But that’s just my opinion.

Good on you for having a dream, setting a goal to make it a reality, then finally being able to do it! They're losing a great mechanic but you're gaining the solitude and peace and quiet that you deserve!

Thanks. I'm excited but i have to admit a career change at my age has me a bit nervous. I've been at that same job since 1994. Being in Baltimore my whole life and moving to the small mountain town of Great Cacapon that doesn't even have a red light is pretty cool tho. Whole different world up there.

All good points. A) to be worn affixed to your arm.

The "left-hand grip" adds more stability. :notsure:

All the ranges I go to are private and I know the owners.

Now, if this wasn't an airsoft, and instead was a ghost 9mm pistol conversion sporting 33 rnd clips, a one point sling, 3 different types of sighting systems, and a modified stock, then I might consider being worried. Like you said, most cops will consider people who arm themselves an asset first.

So far it's a budget build with one purpose. I'm just making sure it's tuned to my liking.

I agree, you're very very brave for someone as old as you are. Even if I were half as young as you are I might still worry about my age and possibly chicken out for fear of slipping on ice in the driveway or something.

Sounds like exactly what I hope to do many years down the road. I'll be following along how it goes! I've done a bunch of cabin and camping trips up in that area. Really pretty.

Also :101010:. This would look great paired with the Blue Crab. I like the breech tool. Where did you get that engraved, or did it come with it already like that? I'm definitely adding one to help with the pug like face of this thing. It needs a snout.

@greengen1 Brian, and Mike, I do understand what you're saying and your intent, and I appreciate it. I'm always open to be taught something, by anyone, and I always say, information is knowledge and knowledge is power. I like discussing it. I'm too far along in life to worry enough and say "ah thanks for telling me, I changed my mind". I'm too much a dumb ass but also, I am too far over the line now to stop. I believe, once I add this,

    upload_2022-1-28_10-26-17.jpg

    to this

    upload_2022-1-28_10-27-19.jpg

and THENNNNN add a cheek rest, [ahem] "left-hand support handle".
Especially with my background :spy: we're basically not even having this conversation now :spy:

Pretty much all bets are off.
