Misfires. What's the part# for a crankshaft position sensor (3.4)

    I've got a 2002 with a 5vzfe that suddenly has lots of misfires. Cylinders 2,3,4,5,6 plus a P0300. We put a new (rebuilt) engine in it a couple years ago and used all OEM parts. It had a new maf sensor, new O2 sensors, new plugs (the exact correct plugs).

    With this issue popping up all of a sudden and from the reading I've done it seems like it could be the crank sensor. The parts site I was using doesn't seem as great as it used to be (mcgeorge). Anybody got info on what the sensor part # is?

    I usually look on an auto parts website, or call Toyota when I need a specific part number.

    Just saying......o_O

    Seems crazy though THAT many coil packs failing all at once? It's got an OEM knock sensor. It must have been mid 2019 when we put this engine in, I paid the extra for an oem knock sensor. It would seem unlikely for those scenarios to occur but it's good to consider.

    I checked my usual trusted source and came up empty. From my past experience here I've known of people (myself included) who have spreadsheets of parts used in a build.

    Having said that, I'm may have found it. Just need to read some more.

    I just Googled "2002 toyota tacoma crankshaft position sensor" and came up with these.

    Shit. You got me on that one. I guess I was in a bit of a panic. I searched my usual trusted source for OEM parts and was prompted to fill out a parts info form so I could be contacted. This was new. My initial Google search seemed to show multiple parts. I thought "you know where there are people who can ID the right part from experience". We're kind of up against a time issue to have all the vehicles running.

    So, we swapped out the sensor this morning with no change. It was an auto parts store sensor, not OEM but it was available. Cleaned the MAF which is fairly new but was dusty with fine particles. No noticeable change.

    Moved on to plugs since I had a set of OEM plugs already. Found cylinder 6 had a hole in the boot from arcing so we bought a set of wires too. Boom. Truck runs great! My son says it has more power than ever lol. What a relief to have it back in good working order.

    I appreciate your input.

    You were just off your game in the heat of the moment.

    On a side note I went out a few weeks ago to move my 1999 Corolla to the other side of the street. Case if too many vehicles and not enough driveway, causes the local parking enforcement to get nosey. Anyways the car that ALWAYS starts, just cranked and an cranked and spit and cranked. After nearly killing the battery trying to start it, it smelled of raw fuel.

    Pulled the battery and put it on the charger in the garage. Then it snowed 8" on the damn thing before I could get back to it. Snow melted, so I got back to it.

    Gave the engine bay a quick once over and then plugged in my OBDII reader to see if there were any codes. No codes, but while cranking in live data mode, I did see that the RPMs were being indicated. This tells me that the crank sensor is good and not the issue.

    Ran out of time that day to fiddle any further. Got back to it a few days later.
    This time upon opening the hood, I just happened to look in the right place immediately.

    F'n rodents!!!!
    Three out of the four spark plug wires chewed to hell. Explains why it sputtered while cranking, the silly car was trying to start with one cylinder.

    Easy fix, all is good now.
