Another vote here for spending around $300 to get an aftermarket ecu tune. Very good bang for the buck.

Someone should set up a tuning shop across the street from a Toyota dealer and offer "tuned" test drives to folks who have just test driven a stock truck from the dealer. :D

    Coyoza tune is M/T specific.

    Geez
Geez, glad i don't have to spend an extra $300 to make my truck run better. Test drive one that works right to begin with.

I guess there are those that are happy with the low power (torque) at low rpm that the stock 3.5 V6 offers and those that are not and some of those that don't mind paying for a better, more usable power curve with improved throttle response at low rpm.

well you went from a 4.0 to a 3.5 Atkinsons Cycle engine, pretty mush explains it. do they have super chargers yet for these?
i did not notice it on the test drive of my 2016 because the salesman was constantly chatting me up on all the new gizmo's distracting me from noticing it. for those of us with automatic's the ECT Pwr function saved the day for me.

Idk what you mean by low torque...while its not quite my tundras 4.7 v8, its totally acceptable. Getting back to a buddies year older trd, now you may have a point if many are the same way. That truck was doggy.

We have very different ideas on what plenty of power is. I live at the same altitude and the engine is very underwhelming, especially if towing.

I once tried the ECT in my truck and hated it for the stuff i use the truck for/with. Noticeably longer shift points and more engine noise causing piss poor fuel economy. I haven't tried it since. I do use the S modes for long steep hills, saves on riding the brakes.

Not sure if we have different ideas, I think I just accept the fact that smaller trucks have less power and don't go whining about it on a forum(not directed at you). But this is a forum of whiners. If I was going to be doing any real towing, I would go with a full size truck, which is what I had, as my last truck was an F350 with 900 ftlbs of torque. I never understand why people buy a small truck to do big truck things. The advantage of smaller trucks is the handling and being able to fit them where a full size truck won't go, lighter weight and better mileage.

But power wise, it is no more underwhelming than it has ever been. It is the fastest of all gens of taco. I feel real bad for all the 4 banger drivers in here with their tiny little engines that can't get out of their own way. lol.
