It's getting there! Full steel RCI skids are coming, and my C4 Hybrid front bumper with Warn Zeon 8S winch is ready to go. That goes on this weekend/early next week!

I do not, but I will snag one and post it up for you to check out. It looks awesome to me, but I am biased of course.

I'm starting to come around to the skinny-tire idea. How much easier is it to fit narrow tires over the more normal aspect ratios most others run? Is it possible to run taller tires with less lift? As I type the questions I'm realizing there is almost certainly at least three threads for this.

Much easier. No CMC or anything to my Tacoma to run those 33's. I even run mudflaps without contact. No crazy caster settings either (i.e. within factory spec).

    Yes

Check out buddies 2017 on skinny 35's. Drop dead gorgeous. You have to do more work to run 35's, fyi.

35x12.50 on MGM in background, for slight comparison

I am stock. No lift, no cab mount cut, and I have armor (eng, trans, fuel tank, & sliders), i.e. weight. NO rubbing, BUT... I also am running stock wheels. I think many of the rub/hit issues come from those with aftermarket wheels. ???

The tall skinny tires perform better than wide tires off-road. Only place they don't is snow deeper than 12" and deep mud (depth unknown to me). But anywhere else, aired down, they spread lengthwise to provide more traction (think: tank tread).
I would like to go to 235/85R16, and would if I didn't see more pavement than dirt. I am leery about cornering at 60+ mph on 235s with a high center of gravity. Don't know if it's an issue, but it's on my mind.

Here are all of the parts from the SOS Performance 2" front / 3.5" rear lowering kit, plus the front Bilstein 4600 shocks and new KYB strut mounts. The rear Bilstein 4600 rear shocks should be shipping shortly, but with the front shocks, I can still go ahead with the installation when it warms up a little.

It's still really cold up here in northern NV, and it's 30 degrees right now, and neither I nor my buddy whose lift we will use to do the installation wants to be out in his shop handling ice-cold pieces of metal, but in a couple of weeks, we should be having some days warm enough not free are asses off doing the installation.

They’re not expensive and usually any quality aftermarket suspension components are better than OEM. I put them on my Billstein 5100’s (KYB top-hats).

DevilDog, hadn't realized that was YOU posting about your new upgrades. I read your post about the Utah trip and will add here, for the others reading this thread, that YOU have great real-life real-time performance experience (mud, sand, rock, highway, etc.) with those tires.
I really enjoyed "The Longest Mile". Cheers for your effort in sharing it with us!

Because the stock speakers sound about as good as a car from 1999 and the HU is slow and clunky with both CarPlay and SiriusXM. And it’s my daily and I enjoy good sound?

Really, the minimum requirement for performing any mod is simply "Because I wanna."

man everyone must have better ears than I do. Not just with Tacomas but whenever people complain about audio systems in cars. I don't really jam out in my vehicles and have been known to drive places and not even realize the radio is off. I don't really have an issue with the sound system in my Tacoma.

Me: "I love everything about this truck."

Also me: "I need to change everything about this truck."

That aggravates me too, the stock HU takes forever to kick on when starting the truck. My 2018 Tundra didnt have that problem.

Yeah, reminds me of dialup internet.

Edit: In all fairness though, I didn’t buy it for the outstanding sound system but for the outstanding off-roading prowess.
