Hey what would be the complications of dropping in an LS1 into a first gen Tacoma. I think the hard part would be keeping 4x4 so what transmission would I find? I can make mounts so that’s not a problem.

Use the Google with 'ls1 tacoma 4x4' to get you started.

So I'm just curious... what would a LS1 engine give you that one of the standard 1st gen Taco engines wouldn't?

v8 power and tons of optional power adders that actually work.

The hard part is going to likely be retaining 4wd and finding an oil pan that'll work with it

why not just mount a Toyota Truck body on a chevy 4x4 short bed frame with the complete Drive Train already in place. that would seem to be an easier way to go with the least amount of Mods, but I'm just guessing here.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
this is by far the best and easy way to go!!

    Also the cheapest .

You can go the engine swap but lots of fabrication one off parts unless you have extras on the shelf wait weeks for a replacement.

Chevy drive train parts are every place

The merging of the chevy engine harness and computer to the Tacoma would very interesting and time consuming

Not like the computerless carbed versions of old.

This seems to be the biggest complication you will have.

It also comes down to if the vehicle needs to be street legal.

Find a mid sixties small block it would be so much easier.

I think you should do a hilux diesel engine swap. Get more power and avoid a fiery gulf swallowing you whole.

You can register anything 25 years old as classic and no smog here so not much of an issue here.
