yeah i would definitely try to argue about that. Not sure if it will do you any good but its worth a shot. As others have said for 8k you can get a full kings setup, UCA's, leaf springs, and pick out your own wheel and tire setup for that price and even have money left over if you did the work yourself.

Go ask for the stock tires and wheels. Those came with the truck which you paid for but never got. Hard lesson learned. When buying a car, the dealership is out to get every penny from you. They're looking out for their best interest.

Wow, Imagine the build that could have been be done for $8k... Spacer does not look right but that is probably all they will do for you unfortunately. At least my local dealership know for overpriced subpar "Builds" straight up state it is a spacer lift.

Oh man, you are telling my story.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dsi-lift-from-dealer-help.752759/#post-26818124

That sticker in your picture is where the dealership puts all the “add-ons.” Add-ons are a way for the dealership to make $$ over MSRP without having to show it as a “dealer mark up.” That way, it seems like you are getting a decent deal with a nice package without much or any dealer mark-up over the MSRP. Of course, in reality, they are just slipping the mark up into the add-ons by overcharging for add-ons, such as with the “suspension package.”

When I bought my 2021 recently, I knew the add-ons were way overpriced. I was okay with it because I just considered it a mark-up in a high demand and low supply situation (the Toyota dealerships around me still look like ghost towns). I needed a vehicle, I wanted THAT Tacoma, and I was willing to pay extra. The mistake I made was ASSuming that the “2.5 performance suspension” package was the new TRD lift.

I have the same style spacers up front. The rest of the suspension is stock (I had to ask in the forum to sort that out). Like you, I have 17” wheels and 33’s. Those are actually decent.

    IMG_1514.HEIC.jpg

I’d say we’re stuck with the add-ons we paid and signed for. BUT, that spacer doesn’t look right and should be covered in the warranty. I would for sure annoy them until they fix it.

I’m planning to get the TRD lift in the future, but the spacers are holding up fine for now. I’ve done some light-moderate off-roading, and all seems well. I still need to check the alignment, though.

Anyway, you aren’t alone. It's a pretty standard (albeit slimy) way for dealerships to make (swindle) money. Wouldn’t it be nice if they were just upfront about how much they are marking it up? There would still be a line of people waiting to buy the truck right now. It sucks that the accepted standard is dishonesty… sort of like with banks and mortgages. Such is the way…

Don't feel too bad; anyone with a 30-year mortgage (myself included) is getting reamed much, much harder than this :)

I mean, what are they doing for $8k? It still has the stock front shocks doesn't it? Shouldn't even be legal.

They can charge whatever they want for a spacer lift. The issue is that the called it a performance suspension lift. If anything, it decreases performance. I think that’s the only issue that you can take to them (other than fixing the condition of your current lift). It’s fine to charge whatever you want, but it’s not fine to misrepresent it. I say bring it up and see what they say. Never hurts to ask for them to install a performance lift such as the TRD lift for no charge. Of course, they almost definitely won’t do that. And if they won’t, you can always take them to small claims court. You don’t need to have a lawyer and it won’t cost you much money. But even if you lose, you’ve been a pain in the ass to them, which is totally worth it.

OP I am so sorry they did that to you, that's utterly insane, 8k for a $250 block spacer lift.

    :bananadead:

Honestly I might even lawyer up on that one, misleading advertising, to straight up lies.

It's painful as that is, even just a letter from a law office telling them they have a customer concerned about lies and misrepresentation of false advertising sometimes can be enough

But this is straight up highway library It's not even dealership tricks. They flat out lied.

OP Make sure you blast them out on social media too, dealerships and other businesses hate negative press, and if they're going to lie to you like that then they deserve all the negative press they can get

Well I guess crappy performance is still technically a grade of "performance."

I would bet it rides worse than without the spacer. Depending on how much the spacer added will limit the travel of the shock. If it rides like crap bring it back to them under warranty. Keep bringing it back until you can lemon law it. I hate seeing that crap.

Also, you paid FULL PRICE for the truck that came for 4 RIMS and tires. Then you paid for the upgraded stuff that also came with 4 RIMS and tires. You paid TWICE. Unless you see a credit for the 4 OEM wheels and tires they owe you those wheels and tires or the price of them. Pretty easy win in court. You paid for both. The dealership probably kept them and did something with them.

There are two reasons sales like this are successful in *most* cases. (Not speaking specifically about OP. Don't know his reasoning)

    1) Buyer gets the 'look' they know they want, effort free. Unfortunately they don't know how that look should be achieved, or it wouldn't happen

    2) Instant gratification. It gets rolled into the financing. Most are on the ragged edge payment wise with no cash for the mods their hearts desire.

Well, sorry for your loss here... but the good news is that hopefully by posting you can save a poor soul from making the same mistake.

Also, put that dealer on blast. Who the fuck are they and where?

Finally, yes, this is how dealerships operate. Some worse than others (in your case, the one you went to) and this is the result from a lack of research. It happens all the time! They upsell everything and you walk out with 20k negative equity you will NEVER gain back... even in this market! I could go on all day about how to be tactful at a dealership, get what you want and not get ripped off, but it's a little late for that and it pisses some people off beyond reason. The best thing you can try to do is return this entire truck and find another dealer with no "package deals", get the info on the vehicle you are going to purchase, then do your research SLOWLY and PATIENTLY. When a bank is going to finalize a loan, they get the final paperwork, not a sticker price or some other makeup piece of paper. You have to get this and make sure it all adds up and share it, especially since you have no idea what to look for.

If they don't let you return it (you have to do the research here, because they will deter you) then your only option is to go further in debt to fix this cluster fuck, or sell it privately and hope nobody notices and will pay what you did for it. Sad but true.
