Nope, long johns, german overalls, t-shirt, hoodie, wool hat, boots. Then I get to roll around on the ground outside unless it's the once every other month I get a chance to roll into a garage.

I did my entire front suspension upgrade on a shitty buckled and sloped driveway in the middle of the winter at our old place (cam tab gussets, limit straps, LCA bushings, all of that). It can certainly be done.

But I’d much rather be able to throw on my ragged ass hoodie and wrench in my shop with a heater to take the edge off. If anything, just to avoid the exquisite sort of pain that comes from smashing your knuckles into freezing steel when it’s cold as hell outside. That’s a really special kind of suck.

EDIT: Sorry, Murph, that was supposed to have quoted Jason but I’m a big derp :D

I remember the good ol days at Jake's. Pretty much built my first gen in that guy's back yard come rain, shine, sleet or snow. Tubbed the firewall under an EZ up during a snow storm lol.

Yep, my truck has seen some things in that back yard too. Sliders, wrapping up the tubbing, front bumper crossmember. All of it out there on that gravel in the weather :D

It’s kind of a bummer that I did that front end job as well as a rear shock relocation and frame reinforcement in my crappy old driveway, but the new shop has seen zero major truck projects yet. I’m working on fixing that, though!

ya having garage specific clothes is a must. I have garage jeans as well. once something gets worn in the shop it will never be presentable enough for regular wear again haha

    Yep :D

My grubby jeans have at least three different colors of paint, some caulking, and definitely some gear oil on them that will be there for the life of the jeans.

I finally bought myself a nice pair of fleece lined firehose pants from Duluth this year and they have been a game changer for cold weather wrenching. I'm done with the days of wearing old jeans with the knees blown out and long johns underneath. If you've got a creeper, that helps with not laying on cold cement. And of course, the buddy heater. My biggest issue in the winter is not having enough light because the door is closed trying to keep heat in.

On a another note, what's the consensus on replacement power steering racks? From the 1/2 dozen threads I've ready there's a strong preference towards OEM, but some folks seem to have good results with Cardone, at least on the 1st gens. NAPA racks appear to be shit. Anyone have input?

I got the prAna lined pants (https://www.prana.com/p/bronson-lined-pant/M43193293.html) many years ago. They're nicer than I want to wear for greasy garage stuff, but I second that lined pants are wonderful.

I like the prAna pants because the lining is more of a flannel instead of fleece. I got them for around-town wear and the flannel seemed like it would be more comfortable for that.

In a pinch I've also worn flannel pajama pants under loose-fitting outer pants.

I store my auto specific clothing in a bucket of gear oil. May as well skip the step of waiting to accidentally roll around on a spill.

Anything with gear oil or diesel on it doesn't go into the wash, that's for sure
