Are you carrying another Tacoma on your roof? Even with a 1000 miles, I’m afraid 11mpg is too scary. I know there are too many factors that affect mpg, but 11 mpg is a bit low. I had ~ 17 mpg when my truck was brand new ( city drive). Now, I have mud tires, mostly city drive and does 14.5 mpg.

No mods, I usually have my 3 year old daughter in the back seat so I try to drive smooth and safe. I am not driving crazy. I filled up today and will manually calculate and compare to the dash computer.

Man, it's brand new. Just take it in and have them run some fuel trim diagnostics and scans to make sure everything is running properly.

My 2021 has about 2800 miles and is stock. Mostly in-town driving and usually very short trips (under 5 miles), with some limited freeway mixed in, and a couple of off roading adventures. Little-to-no actual stop and go traffic though. I’ve had 9 full fill-ups and the worst mpg has been 15.5 and best is 17.1, hand calculated.

Download the Fuelly app .. and start tracking the fuel and the Mileage. If you can take a day trip or weekend trip some where and see if your Miles per gallon doesn’t increase on the trip versus city driving.

You won't on short trips, but if you set the cruise control to 65 mph on trips 29 miles or longer, you will see 18 mpg.
Before the tune, I would only see maybe 15/16, but also doing 70 mph. Most of us have more time than money:hattip:

That seems low but I’m not far from that. My commute is about 6 miles. The truck will do much better on longer drives. Short trips, truck runs rich, winter fuel, denser air, snow, etc etc. it will get better around 2500 to 3000 miles though as break-in helps a bit. They are not fuel sippers though…

There is no way that is your average
I get 18mpg driving 3 miles to the store
    Are you towing a bridge?

    I'd give it some time

I’d wait until 3-5k miles, if it still doesn’t get better go take it to the dealership. Things need to work in mechanically and software. Congrats on the new truck!

I am being honest, it is what the computer displays. No bridge in tow. :)
Granted, I tend to have short trips and stay local. This weekend I am going to take it on some off-road trails to find MTB trails. It will be a mix of freeway and offroad. I hope the number goes up and again, I am manually going to track this tank of gas. I appreciate all the feedback.

Not implying you, however I know a lot of people who have no idea as to how to check for milage. it does however require two fill-ups, you fill up, (write down the miles) at the next fill-up divide the gallons it takes to fill, by the number of miles driven. pretty simple, I will say, the computers on my vehicles are pretty darn close

FWIW, short wide open throttle acceleration to speed and then coasting apparently is better for fuel economy because of less drag from the throttle plate being wide open at WOT (hence the name) and fuel cut off on deceleration. This would make sense if you look at the amount of vacuum at WOT vs not.
Even if that is true, my best economy comes during long trips sticking to around 60mph (speed limits are slower here), and sorta driving like a granny. Especially during the summer. Man, this truck hates cold weather.
$6.40 a gallon here, so it does make a difference.

    Huge difference here.

This thread mpg is VERY low and not common.
Those threads are due to stupidity, lack of research, and ignorance. They are also so common here that people get tired of seeing them so it's gonna hit the OP like a bag of bricks when they find out they could have searched the forum first, done minimal research and realized it's normal. Fuck em. No sympathy there. Same goes for new "What tire can I fit" threads and "what lift" etc etc threads. Most who reply to those two just want to show off their own setups.

OP needs to take it in and get it checked... and hopefully, as others stated, it's not in KPL instead of MPG. Cuz if so... :bananadead: we riot.

All this makes the 40mpg hybrid Maverick look pretty good for all these "round town" trips. Apparently others must think so too, as Ford sold out their years allotment in less than a month. Feel free to flame on; but I'm awful close to pulling the trigger...

    I agree.

11.5 MPG is way low, unless all you are doing is really short drives, like under 3 miles or have some heavy load your are carrying.

I have about a 10 mile 1-way commute. My trip gas mileage is poor the first few miles, but ticks up towards 20 MPG after 5 miles of highway cruising.

I have seen my tank and average gas mileage reset randomly, though, so I don't trust the computer display. There is a glitch in mine (I'll bring it up on next routine service), definitely the mileage/tank fill calculation is more trustworthy.

No flame here! Gotta get what works best for you. I had a nice Subaru I traded for the Taco, and knew the thing I'd miss most was the MPG. FORD is number one and has been for a long time because like it or not, they sell trucks. Doesn't really matter what anyone thinks about the brand. Also, government (both state and fed) contracts help, lol - and that is worldwide.

Give it time, Toyota will catch up in the MPG department for this size truck. All the good vehicle manufacturers will.

But you'd be stupid to knock someone for wanting to save money in this market. Do what you gotta do! Good luck!
