Well was pointed to this thread from another thread. Been asking for a while if anyone has done this, glad to see some finally have and that its awesome. I have had the lovely chirp chirp for a few years and didnt like how none of the "fixes" seemed to last or actually fix it.

My chirp hasnt got super bad, so just waiting for the clutch or something to go out (currently 170k on it), before i try anything. But will probably have to go this route, once it goes out, if i can gather the funds by then, lol.

Edit: Question, have y'all noticed an increase in your MPG's? I figure you would.

 

Question:

So if understand correctly, the A750F is an inch longer than the RA60F? meaning I could possibly source a rear driveshaft from a 2nd gen Auto? instead of cutting down my DS? or the flanges are different?

I did also get the front DS from a 2nd gen Auto..

 

Yes it is. I have an RA60F and swapped t-cases for one that is an inch longer and i used driveshafts out of a 2nd gen A750F truck

carrier bearing mounts in the same place, just the front half is an inch shorter

 

good stuff thx, current DS has tiny of bit of play at the splines, DS shop might not want to cut it...

It would be nice to find a clean 1st Gen Tundra DS and send that to the shop..

 

When I first did my 4x4, I just went with a complete new driveshaft and put a double cardigan on the front of the rear half. I have not had vibration issues. This would be my recommendation instead of getting a tundra shaft and modifying it.

I've got a clean, low-mile 2014 DCLB that I like well enough but the words I use can't begin to describe how deeply I loathe the A750auto trans, even with Justin/Ben's tranny tunes.

Can you tell me specifically what the update to the RC62f was in 2018 and later years and what the part number is and/or when the change occurred in 2018?

The transmission part number split is 11/2017 and newer. The detent ball, shift interlock, and mid case have updated numbers... the remainder of the transmission appears to be the same. Are you considering new or used?

Are the changes (updated detent ball, shift interlock and midcase) important enough to try skip over the 2016 and 17 trucks? Kaizen and all aside, I'm just curious...

 

The 2016 has T-SB-0088-16 to update the detent ball. The detent ball is super easy to swap should you buy an early transmission. From 03/2016 the interlock plate was updated, from 05/2016 the detent was also. The case was updated at 11/2017. Are the interlock and case worth going later? That I do not know.

 

There's a wrecked 2017 a few hours north from me. I'll see if he's responsive and willing to take a pic of the VIN. Thanks again for the info, Brian.

 

Has anyone done this on a stock (non tuned/boosted) 4.0??? Have approx 175k on my 09 and either the clutch took a shit or whole tranny is shot. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts or data on any mpg increases ( do mostly highway driving) and if 1st is a big difference for any off roading. I have the 2lo mod already so reverse isn't a concern. And where are yall finding these RC62F transmissions? I'm in middle TN and seems like they are very few and far between.

 

.64 6th ( plus double overdrive) would be great. Does anyone know the differences in length between the RC60F/RC61F and the RA60F as well as if the bell housings use the same bolt pattern?

 

Keep reading this thread, most of the info you seek should be contained. As for the RC60F and 61 transmissions that are installed in the diesels, the lengths of the cases, bellhousings, and input shafts are all the same. Only that 5th gear ratio is different. If you want the Diesel ratios, you'll have to buy a complete transmission and swap the input shaft, bellhousing, and front bearing retainer/quill.... that's the best way at the moment.

Eventually, we might be able to buy an RC62 and rebuild it with the Diesel gears.... but by the time source all the indivual parts, they may add up to more $$$$ than just using 100% new.

 

Well I guess the best option for a more or less plug and play unit option to replace the RA60F is the RC62F then( on a time and budget crunch) and then play around with the RC60F/RC61F options as time and funds permit. Would be nice if we could get a gear swap kit or something for the better cases. Thanks again for the great info and help.

 

@BillDaCat8 what clutch are you using for the RC62F and where did you get it? I have a mostly stock 1GRFE and URD USA does not have any clutches listed for the 3rd gen 3.5l tacomas. Wasn't sure what other reputable companies there were out there for the tacomas and 3rd gen clutches. Thanks for all the great info.
