    Hey all

    I’m a new Taco owner and considering a lift and tire upgrade. I will be doing probably 95% of my driving on road and only off roading I’ll be doing will be on my hunting land. Anyways, I reached out to a local off roading company about adding a lift and bigger tires. I think I’m going to keep my stock 16” wheels and just add tires and lift. The company recommended a Stage 1 Icon lift and Falken AT3 285/75/16 with a body chop/mount. They quoted me $4800 with taxes. What are your opinions? I was looking to stay in the $3800-$4000 range. Don’t want Rough Country. Any ideas or advice?

    I feel like that’s a little overboard for what you’ve stated unless driving on your hunting land includes some fairly serious wheeling. It would probably be amazing, but it sounds like that quote is over your budget. You could definitely do a quality lift for less. There’s tons and tons of threads here diving into various kits. Bilstein 5100s with Old Man Emu springs, Fox 2.0 (and 2.5?), and King set ups are probably the most common. The Bilstein set up is the cheapest and the others I think are pretty pricey, but I think would still stay within your budget? Can’t say for sure because my budget was more like $2,000 when I was looking at options. There’s also Old Man Emu BP-51s, Elka, and Eibach.

    I have the Ironman 4x4 Foam Cell Pro stage 1 kit with SPC’s adjustable UCAs. I do pretty light off roading- fire roads, forest service roads to trailheads and campgrounds. I haven’t gotten to really take my truck off road since I got my lift put in since my go-to spots are snowed in right now, but I’ve run it on a little loop trail and it did well. I’m confident it’ll be great once I do get out there. There’s a whole thread dedicated to this kit if you look it up as well as a newer mega thread with the info consolidated.

    One thing I really like about my kit was that they’re pretty durable and rebuildable if necessary. My understanding is that fancier shocks with remote reservoirs like Icon, Fox, King need to be rebuilt fairly often. I can quite recall, but I feel like it was like every 15,000 miles or something? Some interval that seemed too inconvenient for me on top of being more than I wanted to spend and more capability than I really needed.

    If you’re not in a huge rush, get your post count up to 50 and keep an eye on the buy/sell/trade forum. I’ve seen a good number of TRD Pro Fox, regular Fox, and King set ups for sale lately. Can’t say for sure if they were great deals, but worth looking into.

    For what you're describing, you would be good with 265/75/16 which would not require a CMC. And you probably don't need fully adjustable coilovers. You would be good with OME springs and shocks, OME springs on Bilstein 5100 shocks or Headstrong 2" springs on 5100 shocks with a 3 leaf AAL and 5100's in the rear with any of those set ups. These options would cut your costs considerably. And if you're decent with wrenching and following online tutorials, you can install them yourself fairly easily if you order the spring/strut combo preassembled.

    Falken wild peak at3 are great tires and I love mine. I would stick with the 265 75 16 size. That is a good size and what I run. Never got stuck and i do decent off roading except rock crawling. Hate that stuff.

    Price on the tires is all over the place depending where you go. When I bought mine, wallmart had them for $125 so American tire matched them

    Yea, I’ve looked into the Bilstein setup. Been watching lots of Youtube vids. It’s easier for me to see a truck to visualize what I’m looking for rather than read about it.

    So, you think the 285/75/16 would be too big? I just don’t want a big gap between the tire and wheel well. I know 2” lift isn’t much, but I’m new to all the upgrading a truck. First truck I’ve owned so definitely a noob.

    Yes. It will ride much better. If you're worried about the 265/75s (32") looking small, you could go with 255/85s (33") and avoid all the fitment issues associated with 285s.

    But I'd say stick with the 265/75s so you can stay with SL tires. Going 285s will be heavy AF E load tires that'll probably cause a rough ride.

    Browsing the different tire size threads might be helpful for you in that case, and most folx end up posting their lift specs alongside the tire specs so you can get an idea of what looks good to you. As noted, running 265s will let you clear things no problem since it's a stock tire size and the skinny 33s (255) will let you go big with minimal rubbing issues. I think 275s are pretty decent for avoiding a cab mount chop. That was my initial plan, I only went to 285s b/c my partner took them off his Jeep

    Here's my truck with ~2.5" of lift and 285/70/17s. I did a cab/body mount chop (you'll see folx refer to them as CMC or BMC) even though things seemed to be clearing ok. I just wanted to get it done before it had the chance to become an issue. It was done like the day after my alignment, so I didn't really play with the wheels at full lock to suss out any rubbing beforehand.

    I have 21 4x4 sport with bilstein 5100 with stock spring and icon add a leaf pack and love the ride my tires a
    Wild peak c load , my buddy runs a 265 75 16 e load which ride a lot firmer .

    I found a thread by ecrracing I think is his name. It helped. Im still confused on if I were to buy the Bilstein 5100 complete lift kit would that be everything I need in one package or would I have to add other things?

    2/1"Bilstein 5100 Lift, and 265/75/16 tires. No chopping, less power loss, mpg loss, and NO rubbing.

    For the amount of Off Roading you do, $4800 is overkill, but hey, it's your moolah!

    Do you have a link to a specific kit you're looking at? We'd need that before we could say. Generally you'll want to have these parts:
    - front struts and springs (coilovers)
    - upper control arms
    - rear struts
    - leaf springs

    Parts you may want:
    - axle shims
    - diff. drop kit

    If you don't already have a vendor in mind, off the top of my head I know Headstrong Off-Road is pretty popular. They definitely have a kit for the 5100s. I bought my UCAs from them. They're pretty responsive over email if you have questions for them.

    Yeah, that looks like it covers all the stuff you need! I don't think you need the extended brake lines (optional at the bottom), but ultimately that's up to you. I do recommend getting the SPC UCAs to help dial in your alignment, but again, that's up to you. I think some folx that get this kit run the stock UCAs just fine.

    Both of the kits you linked have options for the coils, the number will depend on how much additional weight (if any) you plan to add to the truck and where. I think ARB has a chart on their website to help you figure out what coil to get. Also lots of threads here with input from members. I remembering seeing reports that the 888 ends up sagging really fast.

    I forgot to mention earlier- the other ppl who have commented here about E rated tires are spot-on. Definitely stick with SL or C, E is overkill if you're mostly on pavement.

    Oops, forgot to add that for the add-a-leaf it's the same deal. Depends if you plan to add a bunch of stuff in the back (topper, bumper, bed rack, roof top tent). Unfortunately I can't help you there b/c I got a whole new leaf pack rather than adding to the stock one.

    Please save your money. Based on what you will be doing, you do not need the Icon. Get one of the Blisteins 6112/5160/ 5100. No chopping or anything. Keep stock wheels.
