    Nothin crazy yet...
Man, I literally just did this plug n play upgrade, and am EXTREMELY happy I did. Yes, the Subaru OEMs are a little more $, but they are Kicker and they offer an outstanding difference from the stock trash.

I'm now looking at the front 6x9x / rear 6.5 / 6.75s... sticking with Kicker (from the same threads you've seen) is what I'm looking at now...

Manuals dont come with the JBL option for some reason regardless of trim. It's one of life's great mysteries. Same case for my 2018 Pro, but like others have said way easier to upgrade the nonJBL setup.

So has anyone actually determined what the difference is between the premium and non-premium stereos in the 6MT?

Depends on trim level. Premium Audio includes Navigation, and in some trim configurations an upgrade to an 8" screen from a 7" screen.

About 2 speakers for older 3rd gens.

    Base audio has 4 speakers.
    Premium had 6 speakers
JBL audio has 7 speakers and an amp (6 speakers + sub)

But looking at the Toyota build it website for 2021 and 2022 models it seems like Toyota went full retard and offers about 7 different options which is confusing as hell. 4 base audio options, 2 premium options, and 1 premium JBL option. Guessing this madness started when they replaced all the head units in 2020 with ones that had android and Apple car play

Agreed. I have the JBL and wish I didn’t so I could upgrade easier. It will get done though. Ha
