13WL Calipers came from Napa.
I think I payed around $300 but I traded my old ones in for a $120 core charge


Rotors, pads and shims came from McGeorge Toyota for about $220


Brake lines came from Dan at Adventure Taco for $120

The install is pretty straightforward and there are several detailed instructions available in other threads.

Remove the tire

Disconnect the brake line at the top of the frame.

To remove the clip holding the brake line in place I reached down through the engine bay with a long pry bar and tapped it out with a hammer.

Side note.
Sometimes these hard lines can be difficult to remove and the heads strip easily.
If they don't want to move I go straight for the little camp torch

Get it nice and warmed up and then hit it with a little WD-40. Sometimes it starts a small fire, usually just smokes a little. maybe don't try this at home (or do, you do you).
I've used this method on some gnarly rusted out bolts and brake lines over the years with good success.

Remember kids always play with fire safely


I used a vacuum cap as Dan suggested to stop the hard line from leaking once it's disconnected.

Remove the bracket attaching the brake line and ABS wire to the spindle.

Remove the caliper with the brake line still attached


Smack the rotor around for a bit and they pop off.



Trim the corners off of the heat shield. I was almost able to do this with just some old tin snips but ended up using the grinder.




Now put it back together with the new stuff



My passenger side caliper didn't come with a dust cover for the bleeder value but at least I have that vacuum cap


I connect the brake line starting at the caliper and working towards the frame once the last line is connected I opened the bleeder valve and waited for fluid to start leaking out and then tighten it back down.

For bleeding the brakes I use a home made Ghettoaid brake bleeder





Got everything buttoned down and drove to St George and back making sure to take advantage of the drop in altitude and high speeds of I-15 to seat the brakes in nicely.



I am very pleased with how the brakes feel and perform.

The day my 2nd gen shamed a lifted F-350 after he failed to clear this tree from SR-14.

He left so fast it nearly caused an accident

Hah, I just realized it was a Gen1 but Ive heard the Gen3 kits don't always work as well as expected. I would love to swap to disks if they work better than factory drums especially for towing.

Although the drums have never given me issues.

 

Drum brakes can last a long time and most of your stopping power is in the front. I'm not familiar with the upgrade options available for the 3rd Gens and I didn't feel like it was as big of an issue with the 2nd Gens as it is with the 1st Gens.
The only 3rd Gen I've driven was a TRD Sport and I don't remember the brakes feeling inadequate

Well @Sicyota04 was kind enough to point out that my glove box light was burnt out. I had no idea it even existed. Lucky me I bought a pack of T5 / #74 bulbs





I used some needle nose plyers to gently pop the bulb out, I'm surprised it didn't break

 

Drove out to a semi local hot spring I've visited a few times over the years

 

Installed a Hayden 677 transmission cooler




I still need to mess with the mounting a little but it's functional for now.

 

Played around on some local rocks that the W.E. Rock crews use for the Cedar City series

The dreaded Check Engine Light came back on.

P0442 small evap leak.

Replaced a handful of door panel clips


The door rattles less, confirmed by a little desert fun

It's been a while since I swam in this little local man made puddle.

There's a gate blocking the was most of the time now and honestly Im not surprised. I've dumped water on abandoned fires out here more than once. the most recent included a text book and someone's notes for nursing school.



Oh and my P0442 check engine light came back on.
