I’ve been following this thread for about a month now. I figured I’d make an account and share that I just picked up my 2022 TE in Lunar Rock Wednesday of this week. My sales guy sent me this picture on Monday. It was shocking because I never even got a build date before it showed up. All the dealer had was an allocation. Like people have been saying it does come with the front air dam piece installed. I’m very happy with my new Tacoma! I hope everyone else waiting for one gets theirs soon!

Thanks for your post! Love your truck! Mind sharing what you paid and why you chose a Trail over another trim?

Thank you! Yes, I’d be happy to answer both. I ended up paying MSRP. It ended up having $2300 of stuff I didn’t want to spend the money on, but I didn’t custom order it. I wanted to spend as close as I could to $40k for one of these but with the extras it ended up coming in just under $43k. I did try negotiating down, but the dealership wouldn’t budge on price or throw in any accessories. I figured they wouldn’t do anything with the market the way it is. It never hurts to ask.

I have three reasons I went for the trail edition over any other trim. The bronze wheels and the heritage bronze grill is a real nice bonus but not any of my main reasons. Here are my three reasons I thought the trail edition was best for me:

    1) Uniqueness- The only other truck I’ve owned(had it since high school) is a ‘97 T100. I always wanted to drive something nice through college but couldn’t afford it. I ended up working at a auto body shop through college. One of the perks of working there was doing a lot to the old T100 to keep it looking like new. It started to become something really unique, even to the point I’d get strangers approaching me at gas stations or the car wash complimenting the truck. I honestly really liked the unique aspect of having that truck. When considering a new truck the trail edition was something that offered a little bit of that unique aspect, but wasn’t in the price range of the trd pro. Now you could argue that I could get a trd off road(or even sr5) and modify it to make it really unique, but I also wanted something that wasn’t a project at all. Just buy it and drive it. The trail edition seemed to fit the balance the best.
    2) Black fabric interior - As mentioned previously in this thread OR trim does not have an option for this. I wanted to have specifically black fabric, I prefer fabric over leather.
    3) Electronic locking rear diff- I get up into the mountains quite a bit here in Utah. I always wished my t100 had a locking diff.

Great response! I think your first point really nails why a lot of us went for it. Sure, an OR could be built up to be unique, some may argue it is a better value (not that base ones are easy to find), but "buy it and drive it unique" it spot on. Feel free to post a photo of that T100!

Point 2 agreed as well, OR fabric interior for me is not great.

I posted some more photos in the other, larger thread, but it came in yesterday! Already got that air dam off...10 minute job. Love this truck!

Picked up the truck Friday, and took it directly to get ppf and tint. Time to get another mod. Fog lights? Full skid plates? LED headlights? Rock sliders/step? I can't decide:annoyed:

The front end, 10" hood, door cups, and rockers. Although I might regret not getting full door ppf since my in-laws dog has a habit of jumping up on cars.

    1. Take the air dam off
    2. Drive it for a while to see what you feel is missing
    3. I have been pleasantly surprised with the headlights. However I’m coming from a 10 year old car with halogen reflectors so these projectors are a huge upgrade.

Picked her up yesterday. Still feels like I'm driving a rental car, but it's so nice. Came out to the parking lot after dinner to find her already making friends.

Just that I'm not used to driving it, and we picked it up out of town so it felt like a rental for the first day or so. Much more comfortable now. Poor dog has to get a running start to get in the backseat.

I also concur. Picked it up last Tuesday, ice storm Wednesday and Thursday, then got sick, so I’ve put a total of 40 miles on it in 6 days. I just go out and stare when I feel up to it because that’s the best it gets for the most part right now :) just glad I was able to grab it that day, if I hadn’t I still wouldn’t have gotten it yet!

I will say, this truck looks so good. People stare. I have a few Toyota enthusiasts who live by me, one 2G Tacoma owner one Tundra owner, they both love it.

Also, can't remember if I had mentioned this - but people seem to call the Trail a bad "deal", as in the package is too expensive. Well, it works for me, and that's all that matters, not that there are a ton of options right now anyways. But this port option package has to be the lowest value. Not judging anyone who got it, it's certainly cool, but in terms of "value" the Trail package at $3765 looks like a steal compared to this.

Little update. Today I tried looking up the temporary VIN on the Toyota Owners site and nothing came up like it had before. Looks like it is actually being built Today! Hopefully there aren't any delays getting it up to Michigan...

You’re seeming good for a February delivery then! Mine got delivered roughly 3 weeks after building. Congrats!
