Whatever is open and within a couple hours of the Denver area. I have no idea what stays open. I presume South Platte would.

Just putting this out there... You guys should find a place in your fly boxes to add a label with your name and phone number. If you were to set it down and walk away from it you might stand a better chance of getting it returned.

Watched some Woolly Bugger tying videos this week since I thought I may have the supplies to do them. And, I'd like to start throwing them with more regularity. Turns out I did have the supplies and threw these together tonight on size 8 hooks:

That's #1 and 2. I studied up via videos, so that helped a bunch. Guess I listened well. :)

I have been tying for a long time. Here are three types of hairs ears I like to fish. Put them in a tub and see what happens to the material while making a current. You're looking for the materials to make gills, legs, heads, and tails. The cool thing about the go-pro is you can put it in the water and see what they look like while emerging. I put Kelly in the background because he has gotten in the water to see how the fish feed in the river and has been matching the hatch for over 40 years.

my GF and dad caught one down in Pueblo on Sunday.
pretty sure they got them on midges.
i got a couple bites, but couldn't bring them to my feet :/

My gf also got her first real set of waders. simms freestones i think. shes been using some cheapo $40 Amazon waders with the boots built in. we're still saying she only got her first real fish cuz the waders. (shes got a few on a guided trip a couple years ago. since we go on our own she hasn't gotten one. shes super stoked and leaning towards a summer full of fishing which gets me stoked.)

Hey all, new to the forum and stoked to see a Colorado fishing thread!

I would like to get into tail water fishing this year (I mainly fish alpine lakes in the summer). Do y'all have any advice on must-have flies you think I'm missing from my fly box to have a successful day on the water? (See pics). I'm seeing a lot of mention of small midges/emerger patterns in this forum and in a book I'm reading.

    Thanks!

I started tailwaters this winter and have been reading the same. Size 20-24 midges and nymphs. Eggs seems to be another go-to. If water flows happen to get bumped up, then worm patterns are good to throw.

I've been tying up a few of the little stuff for the box:

Size 24 nymph hooks with thread bodies, wire, and some flash, and a size 22 (which seems more like a 20 or 18; first time using Firehole sticks) jig with too long of a tail. I throw together whatever colors I feel like versus trying to replicate a recipe:

Keep in mind this changes from Winter to Summer and the wild card is does the dam water (some that come to mind- Ruedi, Dillon, Taylor) support Mysis scrimp (If so, must add Mysis patterns).

Thanks all. Going to run to a fly shop today and pick up a few of your recommendations today and try fishing them tomorrow. I'll report back if I catch anything!
