The “Storm of the Century” happened March 12-15, 1993, depending on where you were at. Birmingham, Alabama got 13”. Union County, Georgia reported 35” and Mount Mitchell, N.C. Got 50” with 15 foot drifts.

Edit. The one that Mr. @Gritto is referencing was probably January 7, 1988.

Here he is posing for a picture right before the storm 01A31E26-14FC-4928-9A78-497D9405F137.jpg

Well, my memory is for shit these days, I can't remember if I was still in Georgia or here in NC during that storm. Lived in Auburn Ga, before I moved to Landis NC in 1993. If I was still in GA, that storm dropped a lot of ice and knocked out our power for a couple of days. Wind blew so hard the kids couldn't go outside to play in the snow, then everything turned to ice. I remember sitting in the house listening to the trees snapping and falling. There was a big Pine tree broke off and missed my Ford Ranger by about 2 ft. Had big branches pushed up against the rear end. If the trunk of the tree would have hit my truck bed, it would have been totaled. Still hoping for a good 8 inch storm before spring this year.

    Morning Whateverers

Forecast says an snow later today for the next 2 days and I honestly had no idea. Seems pointless to try and prepare when we rarely ever see what is actually projected in our forecast and it keeps changing.

I remember one year back around 1983-84, we had an ice storm hit Lafayette La. I mean ice was everywhere, and colder than a witches tit out side. I have some pics somewhere of the tennis court chain link fence completely covered in Ice. I went out and walked all around the apartment complex for almost an hour. Really weird weather for that part of the country.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
Wife is pressuring me to go somewhere for our anniversary next year. So I was thinking camping up in the PA mountains. She is on-board with the idea. No desire to go on an ocean cruise. Spent enough time on ships to hate them.

Do you have to drive to get there or is that in walking distance??

Poor Ullie. I'm waiting to jump in the water, too :pout:

It’s about a 15 minute drive! Wish it was walking distance!
