How diabetes is treated in dogs is different than humans—just want to get that out there. But icing, liquid honey, anything like that is perfect. For the episodes I experienced, a small amount of honey rubbed on the gums is usually enough.

I was just reading corn syrup or honey was a good thing to have on hand.

Elroy really only eats things that taste like meat. He'll pass over anything else. I was hoping I'd find some sort of chicken-flavoured sugar syrup but no one has made that yet that I found. Ha.

Wife just got off the phone with the vet. They say he's doing pretty well. Just having a bite to eat. They're checking his blood sugar every two hours and his urine for ketones. Sounds like he's in the clear but still has some recovery to do.

At the point you need either, he won't care :D Just dip or squeeze a little on your finger and rub it on his gums.

If you get corn syrup, be sure not to get the low cal one :D :D

That's very good news. It sure is heartbreaking dealing with our dogs as they get older.

Brought him home last night. He's a million times better. We didn't want to fret too much but we almost lost him. He's definitely rebounded. Sugars are at an acceptable level, he ate his first full meal since the weekend this morning, and is back to his regular spicy self.

He's been pretty good with being pricked four times a day to check his sugar and two shots of insulin. He sits well while we poke him. He gets pretty cranky if we take too long trying to find a spot to draw some blood from. Hopefully we all get better at that. Ha.

I'm glad to hear things are going as well as they are.

Something that helps is to work a different location for each injection. I went from the top to bottom of Riley's back. Be sure you make the tent and that the needle makes it through the skin as insulin absorption rates are different in different tissues.

Looking at all these beautiful boys & girls makes me miss mine even more! 2 weeks in UK without my "shadow", and still 3 to go.
Mishka heard mommy talking to daddy, and she quick snapped a pic of her. I guess when I travel for work, when it is bedtime, she HAS to check the backyard, front yard, and even look in the garage. (Don't know if she ups her security game when I'm gone, or if she thinks I'm hiding from her.) And then, being a daddy's girl, she sleeps on my side of the bed (on the floor), instead of in her bed.

As a dog love I appreciate this thread and seeing all the happy dogs. Had to recently give mine up to a better home, so seeing all the dogs is great!
