Thanks, @trdquoc. As luck would have it, I have 5 unused credits. What I’m understanding is I could flash someone else’s truck now or just hang on to them in case I have a new VIN to flash in the future.

I can’t help you in that department (because I don’t know) you probably could flash someone else’s truck but that would be it.

Getting tuned next Saturday. Can’t decide on normal or sport. Truck is a LB with cap, racks, about 60lbs constant load tools etc, will be on Eibach stage 2 and deavers with 265/75/16s Kenda klevers AT2s. Commute is short 6 miles with a few stops, no bumper to bumper traffic. Sport or Normal throttle? I’ve read entire thread and poll was leaning to normal but now it seems sport is the current favorite. Tuner has a bunch of people lined up, so I’d rather be in once and done…

Sport is nowhere near as aggressive as I thought it would be based on how some people here describe it. Start with sport and go down to normal from there if you feel the need.

I would test drive sport while your tuner is busy with the other trucks. Give your tuner a heads up that you want to test drive sport and may want to adjust after test drive.
It will not be a problem at all. :D:thumbsup:

Have a 2020 TRD Off Road 4 Door- 6' Bed with the Sport tune. Loving it. ECT makes it hold each gear little long. Now seeing any differences between 87 or 93 octane. My tune person gave me a trial for each tune.

    That is good information, thanks.

That sounds like a plan, appreciate it!

Were you towing, or just making it sportier? I’d think the longer shift points when towing would be an advantage, but there’s definitely limits there too. Pretty consistent on the Sport throttle recommendations though. What made you go sport over normal?

Make it sportier. The normal tune just more linear shift, and real smooth. Can't tell you about towing, sorry.

The tune for the ect button is probably optimized for actual towing I’m guessing. Probably an advantage for the transmission when towing frequently. I rarely use it stock so I probably won’t use ect or s-mode with a tune either, unless towing. Looking forward to getting it tuned.

Does anyone have experience with regular towing before/after KDMax Pro? Wondering what sort of impact the tune will have for towing a travel trailer around 4k pounds.

There is a few towing reviews buried in this thread. Try a search but choose “this thread only” and you should get a few.

Have any other Californians run KDmax through a smog station besides @trdquoc ? Just curious if we will have continued CVN success. I definitely want this tune!

Question about the KDMax-Pro tune. I received mine about 2 months ago, all is great. I'm currently on stock tires (265/70/16) with plans to either go 33's (285/75/16) or 34's (285/75/17) MT's (Nitto Trails).

Will I need a reflash? I think I remember my tuner said the current base flash goes up to 33's? I assume if I did need a reflash that would cost the same as a normal flash correct, so another 400ish?

    Thanks!

FYI moving across the country before I upgrade tires so I'll be dealing with a new tuner.

You only need to a reflash if you go up to a 35" tire. No charge to reflash for gears or tire size change. Make sure you have your current tuners info when you make contact with a new tuner. :D

Reviews ITT that I have read have all been positive for towing with the tune. Several pulling heavier campers etc.. IMO that is what the ect button is for anyway really. I’d rather have it optimized to tow rather than to use as a sport mode. I have not towed much with my Tacoma since we sold our pop up the summer before I bought it, but I wouldn’t want it to be overly shifty to tow with, that heats things up a lot faster in the transmission.

I hope you know that you don’t need to actually smog your 2020 until 2028 :)

Good to know, thanks! They made me smog it to register it from another state. I didn't realize that you can normally get around the biennial smog with the abatement fee.
