I found this when I installed then as well. I think I put the caps back on the passenger side afterwards but couldn't get the driver side one on. Probably a great place for rats/mice/skunks to make a nest, eh?

I did leave them off when I removed the bottle jack and that’s when the cross member drooped a bit and I could easily pull it a lot further down.
I put the covers on afterwards.

It fits fine it just doesn’t stay in place. If I mess with it again I’m drilling a hole in it and just have a bolt head or nut against the frame there.

Depends on your location an where you park your truck. My truck when parked lives 90% of the time in the garage but if it's outside in the boonies it's possible.

Something doesn't seem right, it should sit flush without needing to drill holes and add additional bolts but to each their own, the tabs do not stick out very far so I bet you'd have a good old time with that. If you can easily pull it down that further justifies something isn't right, you should not be able to pull down on it and have it move, easily at least. I can get under mine an pull up with my body weight and it doesn't budge.

Did you install the crossmember first without the skid plate? Or did you install the crossmember and skid plate together as one?

If you followed everything by the book, then it could be the crossmember is possibly tweaked and just will not sit flush, be pretty easy to find out with a level. If that's the case I'd contact RCI for a replacement.

I just watched a R4T video on installation and it was easy and straightforward.

Yes yes and yes, rci said it should be fine but IMO it’s not at all ideal, but far from a deal breaker.
It is a simple install, the xmember only fits one way and sat flush with the jack lightly supporting it in place but cranking the two bolts I could pull the rear of it down.

If the the bolts were in the middle this wouldn’t be possible but as it is designed it’s a lever. With the plate on it prevents that from happening.

I only posted all this in the event someone else has similar issues.

I watched his and a few other vids as well, again nothing at all complicated, it just wasn’t the results I expected.

One thing I’d suggest is installing the gas tank skid with less than a full tank of gas. I had to really push up while starting the washers/lock nuts.

I wonder if the cbi is a better design, it might cover the cats as we’ll as having just two sections.

Again, not the end of the world.
