I think the top notch is closer to 2 1/2 in, i have it written down at home, think i am like 23" in. from hub center to wheel flare. I was recommended the 884's as well by Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road.

I removed and installed my front and rear diff/third member myself and had Yotamasters in Corona source and set up the rem polished gear sets and truetrac in the rear, replace bearings/seals etc.

So my wife and I are finally about to move from California to Texas at the end of the month. We'll be pulling a trailer behind my 2.7L which I assume will weigh about 2,000LBS fully loaded. (were getting rid of almost all of our furniture) Just wanted to know if there's anything specific I should know or do before the trip. I need to buy a hitch receiver and everything that goes along with it, just wanted to get some input from anyone who has towed or regularly tows with their 2.7L. Thanks in advance! (pic for attention)

You should be fine. I towed a U-Haul from Chicago to Nashville and it was fine. My Prerunner did come with a class 3 hitch but not the tow package or transmission cooler. The 2.7 was a little sluggish pulling a grade but other than that it was fine. Best of luck and travel safe!IMG_2459.jpg

Awesome. Yeah the only time I wish I had more power was going up long hills, so I was a little worried about that while pulling a trailer, but we'll be taking the 10 fwy most of the way which is generally flat/desert so I'm thinking we should be fine.

Appreciate the reassurance! Good lookin truck

You will have no problems with respect to load capacity. Mine is a 5sp manual which is an advantage with hills. I tow a tandem axle dump trailer with brakes loaded to 5000+ monthly. I’ve inadvertently loaded it as high as 7100, when demolishing a masonry chimney, which is well beyond the rating but with the load over the axles and taking it easy, it was doable. 2000 should be easy, always good to keep your weight centered over the trailer axles, slightly tongue heavy. Makes it handle better on the freeway.

How do you like the 4.56s and 33s? I have been considering this myself. Im running 5.29s and 34s right now and it's a little bit more than necessary

I like them. With my 5sp on 33”ish tires, It’s enough to remove most of my 5th to 4th downshifting on the highway grades I typically drive. Noticeable change in acceleration and very obvious when I’m in 4-lo stepping over rocks or through heavily rutted trails. I thought about 4:88 but with the majority of my miles at 80 to 85mph, the 4:56 is better for me. The trutrac has been really great in dirt, snow, mud, rocks…Very happy overall with everything.

I've seen a few comments in this thread about adding fog lights. Piece of cake!

I added a pair and put the switch down by the clutch release switch. No need to mess with the stalk on the steering column. (Unless you have that apart to install an intermittent wiper control.)
I did go through a relay. Because I added ditch lights, rear spot light, on-board air, comms, and extra USB power - I installed 6 relays w/ fuses & a circuit breaker. But the fogs alone are an easy task.

(You can just see the ditch lights in the mirrors.)

I used a Curt hitch and a OEM Wire harness when I set up my '15 Taco to pull a trailer. I will pull a 5x10 utility trailer, usually with a 1/2 cord of fire wood. It will pull and stop the load pretty well ( no trailer brakes), it's the steep grades on the back roads that make it slightly difficult. My trans will downshift into 2nd gear with the tach near the red zone to barely maintain 25 mph.. it's fairly pathetic ( my 4runner does the same route with ease..)

Just remember to give yourself some extra braking distance and don't expect the Taco to pull the load like a Tundra would, you will be ok.

Yeah we didnt have any problems as far as the truck goes really. Probably averaged about 60mph and 12mpg though haha.

We did blow a trailer tire at midnight about 30mi outside Odessa, TX. Trailer didnt have a spare, my tires are 6 lug and my wifes Ford Focus is 4 lug so neither of our spares worked. Called AAA, we dont have RV/trailer coverage, but they gave us the 24hr roadside service # and we’d just have to pay whatever they charge. Called them 5x with no answer… Tire and trailer supply places in Odessa didnt open till 7am, so we “slept” (maybe an hour) in the truck on the side of the road until then. At about 6:30am gave my wife the gun, and took her car to get the new tire. Came back, changed it, and back in business.

Escaping communism is never easy… haha
