The possibility of incidences like this is why I don't carry. If I did I'd end up in jail and somebody would end up :bananadead:

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
One of my most memorable were the guys in Apt 301. Yes, some 35 years later, I remember these clowns because it was pretty much animal house. One of the roommates got booted (individual leases in a 4 bdrm). He used to come back and hang almost everyday. They were all pretty funny and cool guys, just a little too much hard-core fuckery for our higher dollar complex. Anyway, he knew the rules yet always parked in the lot even though he knew he couldn't. Lots of cat and mouse happened with this guy but one night, I got his ass by calling the tow truck and having him meet on the street to formulate a plan before he made the noise of a tow truck going over speed bumps that everyone was familiar with. Anyway, we snuck in and got him hooked and the dude ran out after his buddies laughed at him when his alarm went off and told him he was getting towed. He didn't have the $20 to cough up to get let down and his buddies wouldn't pony it up to help. Off the truck went with his late 70's lifted Toyota 4x4 with a big roll bar in the back. He ran after the truck as it went down the street and he jumped in the bed. The whole time, his alarm was wailing. He hung on to the roll bar and the tow driver later told me he went all the way across town to impound surfing his truck and didn't have the $70 to get it out that night. Once it hit midnight, it was another $70 bucks!

One thing I did learn is that these tow companies are a fuckin' racket! The shit they get away with is insane and expensive!

Years ago I had a fuel pump die on me. Cop stopped and called a tow truck for me. Bastard charged me $65 to tow it 2 blocks to the Toyota dealer who took me to the cleaners on the fuel pump replacement. Needless to say that neither the towing company nor the dealer ever got another dime of my money.

Very true re the last part. A local place was known for helping themselves to CDs, phones, anything of value in the vehicles they towed.

Just enough to look kinda cool.
Not sure when you got towed but current day it’s roughly 85$ hook and a 4 a mile nationwide. And if the police are involved it goes up a lot more for a hook.

In DC the tow is between $125 and $500 depending on time of day and where you've parked.

Back when this happened most tows were $45. It wasn't so much the cost that pissed me off, it was the distance.

    Just for discussion...

If someone has to travel 30 minutes to do a 10 minute job, would they charge for the 10 minutes or the 40?

Same here, but opposite end of the problem. I was charged $500 for a tow after parking in a "rush hour" spot in the morning and forgetting to move it in the afternoon. The tow driver moved my truck less than 100 meters but it still cost me out the ass

My university does this all the time for some reason. I've watched them clear out parking lots for absolutely no reason at all. They usually move ever car to a different lot

The towing company was less than a mile away and the truck arrived so quick I don't even remember there being any wait time.

Just gotta love parking lots after a big snow storm...

I initially pulled into the open spot on the left, but quickly realized that doing so would leave this guy 2 feet away from the right side of my bed at a 45 degree angle. And since this driver proved incapable of pulling straight in to a wide open space, I decided that the probability of their getting out without backing into the side of my truck was highly unlikely. So, not wanting to sacrifice my truck to make a point, I decided a public shaming of this RAV4 driver on this thread is called for instead.

No that’s just the cost of business and why everyone gets the 85 hook fee doesn’t matter if your next door or an hour away. Now if your really far and not going back to where the tow truck is from then you might get some unloaded miles usually about 2-2.5$ a mile. Just covers the expense of running the truck.

That’s why I love my bumpers, doesn’t matter if they hit the front or corner of my truck they’ll hit my bumper before a body panel.
