Do you happen to live on a hill? and you mentioned short trips.

I live on a hill and any trips, depending on direction, involve 1 to 2 miles of downhill coasting. I find those miles don't count towards "warmup time", only after that does the engine fully warm and mileage start to stabilize. I get less than 10mpg's for the first 2-3 miles of driving - which is the distance to the local business district. After that, mileage goes up sharply and stabilizes in the upper teens.

Unlike most others, my mileage hasn't meaningfully changed over the years.

Where do you get this "information"? The truck goes to closed loop (CL) within 8 sec of the engine startup on Stock ECU calibration and stays there under normal driving

He’s wrong about that. The truck doesn’t run in open loop for thousands of miles. It might be adjusting fuel trims in that time, but it’s nothing that would cause 11.5mpg nor is it open loop

OP should run a diagnostic on his truck to see if there are no abnormalities on LFTs, TFTs and other things.

Me thinks anyone that tracks the degradation of exhaust valves needs a diagnostic on themselves.

Because of this thread, I looked at the computer when I got to the coffee shop about 1 mile away from my house this morning (on a cold startup). Got 11.7mpg for the trip. Like another poster said earlier, I don't think I could achieve 11.5 MPG for a full tank even if I tried.

I've been saying this for a while on here, lol. Would have been the first thing I did that low MPG's on a stock brand new truck. This whole "break in takes a while" is bullshit. Yes, it adjusts but if you got 11.5 in your new taco, your driving habits SUCKED! From day 1 stock I was in the 18's. Now I'm lifted and heavy with no tune and no gears (yet) still getting anywhere from 14-17. 18 on a great day. 11.5 is WAY, WAY too low. It's either the a problem with heavy feet, or something fuckey that needs diagnosed. My trips are far from MPG friendly (headwinds, hills, windy roads, shitty roads, shitty weather etc etc), and if I can manage those numbers, there is no reason a stock truck can't. Hell, I think even one trip I took where I was pretty heavy on my foot when it was stock, pushing around 80 mph and not losing much speed on some hills, I still got 15.

on my daily commute to work i get about 10.5 mpg. But i'm lifted, heavy 33's 5.29 gears and a big heavy windsail four wheel camper in the bed of my truck. Not to mention i let it idle for about 10-15 min each morning in the driveway before i head out.

Interesting. Forgot about the idling time. I try not to let it idle too much, but I'm guilty of letting it run all the time.

If you’re purchasing a Taco for mpg you will be disappointed. Wait til you start adding racks, gear, tents and things, I’m lucky to get 11 mpg

11.5mpg is ungodly low, and something is likely very wrong. I hit 14mpg but I'm a heavy access cab, with a canopy, big tires, lots of weight in the bed and cab most of the time.

    100% agreed.

Also super good point, do some manual calculations OP and see where you're at. I find my screen is relatively close when we're in the winter months and I've got smaller tires, but in the summer it's completely out of whack with 33s so I calculate manually.

I still say 11.5 with stop and go traffic and a bunch of short drives is in the realm of possibility. Easily once you factor in OP and his minimal highway driving.

I dunno that's pretty well my entire driving experience in the winter, most of our rural roads or forest service roads don't get plowed more than 50km here.
